HRM-Pro Plus not accurate during rest between reps, due to irregular heart beat?

I've been using a Garmin Forerunner and heart rate strap for at least 13 years.  I just upgraded to the Forerunner 265 and HRM-Pro Plus.  I have had Afib in the past and I'm on a beta-blocker.  My heart rate routinely includes many premature beats while resting.  I'm finding that the HRM-Pro Plus shows an incorrect (high) HR while I'm resting between reps of running or strength.  The HR drops a little, but not much.  This did not happen with my older equipment.  I'm wondering if the HR algorithm has changed.  I found another post that described how the current algorithm works and why it may be inaccurate as it may be based on the shortest interval rather than the average interval.  I think my old strap was a Garmin HRG1G.  Do I need to go back to an old strap or a different brand strap?  I guess I could also just use the wrist sensor but I wanted greater accuracy.  At this point I plan to send back my new strap as it's somewhat useless to me.

    think you have a point

a few months ago there was suspicion the strap or the watch does not count bmp puls but calculates bpm from the hrv r-r data instead
