Garmin Tempe showing wrong values

Hi,

I just connected a new Garmin Tempe to my Fenix 3 and it shows totally wong temperature readings. Temperature is about 30 degrees Celsius right now and the sensor reading jumps between -2 and 4 degree Celsius. Am I doing anything wrong or is the device defective? Unit is configured to Celsius on the device, not sure what else there is to set?

Thanks for your help!

Regards, Robert

  • I have my recent Tempe being replaced for same reason. Other then I use farenhieght. Had same reading on another gps watch Fenix 6X and 7X. Also handheld gpsmap 67. Support is sending me another Tempe. One thing they had me do is flip battery around for 30 seconds to reset unit. then reinstall battery correctly and see if problem was still there. Which for me it still was.

  • Thanks, I guess I'll get mine replaced too.

Tried the reset it as you described, but the issue remains. When connecting initially it shows more or less reasonable valuers for a short time, but then the values drop off the chart.

Here the graph I recorded in a hike, it starts at +30 then drops to values inbetween -30 and -40. Only once in the hike it went up again to more than 20 for a brief moment and then dropped again.

I tested this on my Fenix 3 but also on an Edge 830, where I added the Tempe using this data field. Also on the Edge the values are off the chart in a similar manner, so it really seems to be an issue with the sensor.

  • so it really seems to be an issue with the sensor.

I now got a new sensor, but it shows the same issue, so it does not seem to be related to a defective sensor. I opened a service request with Garmin, but not sure if they still support my Fenix 3.

  • I also have an issue with this sensor and my Venu2. There is always 1 or 2 degrees offset. This is my 2nd tempe sensor and still the same problem.

    1st Tempe sensor 160732

    2nd Tempe sensor 164253

Not sure if this is the same issue, in my case it is not a slight offset but more like 50 degrees difference. ;-)

No response from Garmin so far to my service request. :-(

  • Hi - please update here if you get any reply from Garmin.

I have the same problem, mine shows an offset of about +19C degrees, but what's worse is that the offset isn't linear, it changes with the temperature range (when going towards 0C it's closer to +16 degrees - tested in the fridge :) Makes it completely unusable.

It went a bit back and forth, but now they have forwarded it to their product development, I'll have to wait and see if and when they come back to me. If they do, I'll post an update here.

  • Any update on this? I just got my new tempe today and the temperature is about 50°F too low.

  • Same here, new Tempe connected to Venu2plus and FR645 ... both showing values between -300 and +280 ... strange, sent back and wait until there is a statement from Garmin

  • I had mine replaced and all is well. Just poor quality control.
