Garmin 645 training status metric not updating when using Polar OH1.

Garmin 645 training status metric not updating when using Polar OH1.

It used to work a few months back but has stopped. The onboard HR monitor (though the data is often wrong for me) or using an external chest strap still updates as it should. Just not the Polar OH1 anymore. Has a recent update stopped external optical HR monitors from providing this data, if so why?

Software Version 7.20 (13d5296)

  • Been having the same issue with my Epix 2 and Polar OH-1. Garmin reps weren't familiar with issue but suggested making sure it was paired using Ant+ and not Bluetooth. Think I did that but not sure because when pairing it showed different IDs but identify what connection type.

Also I notice that unlike when I used it with my 945, turning on the OH -1 and then selecting Run activity, doesn't give me confirmation that it's using an external monitor, though in the menus I can see it's paired.

What I am sure about is Status hasn't updated in 8 months since I started using the Polar with this watch, despite many ups and downs in fitness.

Have your gotten anywhere on this?

    hi,

though in the menus I can see it's paired
    • entering the sensors menu the watch starts scanning for sensors

is your OH1 on the latest firmware ?

sync and restart the watch with a long press of the light button until the screen goes dark, turn back on afterwards

with the free version of Fit File Repair Tool (windows platform needed)

    • you can verify from which sensor the logged hr data came from
  • Thanks for the info. Since my initial post, I actually used Auxiliary HR data screen to confirm the two different HR readings and the higher HR on my short intervals suggested that the Polar is being used as the HR source when connected (compared to prior runs using the sensor)

I then looked under the sensors menu, as you suggested, and under the menu for the sensor I noticed an item "About Sensor" which showed it was connected by BLE. The Garmin rep had  thought that it should be connected using Ant+  in order for the data to be used in to effect Training Status. I don't know if that would make any difference, but wanted to try it out. Although I feel like it used to be connected that way with my Forerunner 945, I can't find a way to force it to connect to the Epix 2 as Ant+.

Any suggestions? Any idea if BLE vs. Ant+ is the problem in the way the watch uses the HR data for Training Status?  I should mention that VO2 Max, Training Effect for a given run and Training Load all word.  But Training Status hasn't changed through ups and downs since using the OH1 with this watch (I didn't for the first few months of owning it)

    hi,

missed you doing the light button restart ?

aha did not know aux hr data could connect via ble , learned something here

in sensors menu you see the sensor name

    • a name with a decimal number most of the time is an ANT+ sensor (when not manually changed after adding)
    • a name with full manufaturor sensor name or a hexadecimal 'mac' address is a ble sensor

check via the polar app (polar flow) if you can swith ANT+ on/off, when off turn it on Wink

for you to check again ...
