All Garmin HRM show elevated Heart rate when beginning a run

So i Have an HRM Dual, HRM pro and HRM Pro plus.  Every single one of them shows a heart rate 30 to 40 beats high for the first Kilometer of a run.  I thought it was just my HRM Pro, but its all of them.  This is across multiple watches, i have seen the issue with my Fenix 6X, forerunner 945 LTE and Apple Watch Ultra.  WTF, doesn't happen when cycling, just running and Garmin does nothing about it.  You can see as soon at the run starts… right to 160bpm

  • I got your point and I agree, but could you explain how it is possible that I’m observing this behaviour with the same strap on Fenix 7 and never had it on Fenix 6.
It was like this, I was using Finix 6 with HRM-Pro, bought Fenix 7, connected old HRM-Pro which I was using with my Fenix 6 and start to use and start to observe this issues with heart rate, one day with Fenix 6 everything was fine, two days later with Fenix 7 it was not. Nothing chaged in my routine, I was preparing to my workouts the same way.

    BTW.
Today I tried another approach, I started Walk activity with strap connected, waited about two minutes, stop it without save, than started my Run, my HR now looks correct, no elevation at the beginning but some other metrics like power, run dynamics started to be recorded after one minute.

I will try last attempt with this ECH gel and if it not help I will call Garmin support to complain about my Fenix 7.

  • Hi.
Thank you for answer but I never tried to use two external sensors at the same time, my issues started on Fenix 7 when I had only HRM-Pro sensor, I bought HRM-Pro+ to check maybe it is a old sensor problem.
What else, I always have enabled on my watch only sensors I’m currently using, other I switch of in watch menu.
But I will follow your advice, remove one of my HR sensors and will observe what will happen during next run.

    Regards.
    Adam.

  • Not a problem, it happens.

    BTW
Today I did first run with chest strap moistured ECG gel and so far so good, no high HR elevation at the beginnig, all data received from the beginning.
Will let you know how it will look next time.
Probably also check it with my old HRM-Pro strap.

    Update.
Today I did next run with HRM-Pro+ strap and moisture electrodes using ECG gel I bought, warks good, HR wos not elevated, all other data were recorded from the beginning of run.
Tomorrow I will check how it will look with my previous HRM-Pro strap.

  • Fresh update.
Today I used my old HRM-Pro during my run and again, everything looks good from the start.
Than for me using ECG gel to moisture strap electrodes solved elevated HR readings problem.

  • It looks that solution with ECG gel was work for a while and now elevated HR issues returns.
My last two runs again showed elevated HR at the beginning, also breathe graph have some gaps.

Also other metrics like Run Power or Run Dynamics are recorded not from the beginning.

I will report it to Garmin as bug.

, could you register it as issue?
I will be happy to share all information you need.

  • Same here, ECG Gel worked once.. now back to the same issue of elevated heartrate for the beginning of run.

  • Adam, thats good to show the graph of HR and Respiration rate - typically the issues are highlighted very well then.  Almost like it highlights the areas of questionable/bad HR data.  Likely the areas with blue resp.rate are the only areas with good HR data as well.  Now... the why it isn't reading well is another question all together.

When you wear your strap does it leave a pretty good indent/mark where you have it?  snug?  I notice my straps tend to loosen up over time and also lose some ellasticity with age, giving them a bit more tension seems to 'maybe' help mine.  Notice my issues most when wiping sweat, drinking, lifting weights at gym, etc.

  • Hi, friend. I had the same problem when I started running in winter, but with sensors from other companies, with Garmin everything is ok. I found the reason. it's static electricity. wet the strap with water before running (not only the electrodes, but a full strap), the problem will disappear.
