HRM Chest Strap - multi version transmitters failures

I currently have the Garmin HRM Tri- a replacement for a HRM Dual that I received in March 2021. The Dual replaced a prior Dual January 2020. Before then I had both dual and my fenix 5 replaced in November 2019 due to connectivity issues. The Tri has now failed, and I’m trying to see if anyone else has same issues I do with the transmitter failing. YES I clean it every day, it goes in the shower with me after every training sessions and is hung up to dry. Battery life is great for me using it 6 days a week, but I’m exhausted being told they are supposed to last more than 2 years and I can’t get one to go past 18 mos. Anyone have any advice on doing something different ? I’m ok accepting it won’t last with the amount of usage I put it through, but I want to have realistic expectations before I spend another $130 on a new strap

  • Hi.

I bought an Edge 830 pack for MTB use around November. I had to change the battery just before Christmas, thinking it might have been a dud that came with it. It has just packed in again. I'm wondering if the HRM is faulty too? There doesn't appear to be any way of testing the output other than using it, and getting home to find no results. Real pain.

  • I have had two Garmin HRM chest straps die completely. A new battery would not help. I read in another part of this forum about putting the CR2032 battery in upside down momentarily, then putting it back in correctly. This fixed mine. I think it must drain any residual charge and reset the unit.

  • I have had the same issue on 3 separate HRMs, two of the HRM-Tri and one HRM-Run, all stop working after 1-1,5 years. I also clean them after every activity and hang them up to dry. Haven't had any success in making them last longer, quite frustrating. They normally show signs of failure, starting to drop out after 15-20min of activity, then after a few activities like that they stop connecting altogether.
