HRM-Dual compatibility troubles

When I realized, that FR35 embedded heart rate monitor terribly lies I have decided to buy the HRM-Dual belt, because it is declared as:

1. Accurate pulse measuring device

2. Compatible with FR35 watch

I’ve connected the HRM-Dual to the Apple Health App via Bluetooth and realized that 1st declaration is true, the HRM-Dual really measures my pulse accurately.

But when I tried to connect the belt to the FR35 I have come to the conclusion, that HRM-Dual is NOT compatible with FR35. Formally speaking, I have established connection via ANT+ between devices, there’s an automatic message “HR monitor connected”, but I still see wrong pulse data on the FR35 screen. The data from HRM-Dual are NOT shown on the FR35 screen and not exported to Connect App afterwards. Thus, in order to see statistics pulse data from the HRM-Dual I cannot use FR35. It looks like I have to pay extra for third parties software. If I knew about this trouble before I would never buy both FR and HRM-Dual Frowning2

I tried to disable the optical HM of FR35, the pulse data from the belt is not gathered by FR35 anyway. It looks like I only can see data from HRM-Dual in another apps, like Apple Health, Fitiv, or whatever…

but not in Garmin Connect! Maybe someone could advise what else could I do?

  • Be aware, that external sensors, including external HR straps like the HRM-Dual, work only with the FR35 only when a timed activity is running. It won't work for simple 24/7 hr monitoring.

  • Thanks for your reply, TMK2. Next time I play my bass I’ll start “RUN INDOOR”, because the embedded optical HM shows 160 pulse. This number is exactly twice more than manually checked with the stopwatch. Sunglasses

  • And all these informations are in device manuals.

@maleszko, why you don’t go to Garmin support and report issue with HR sensor from your watch?

    Is it out of guarantee?

Not only with FR35, but all Garmin watches, even FR955 or Fenix7 ! For 24/7 tracking, the internal sensor is used, for sports activities external sensor (if connected).

sked fot public opinion. What is the essence of your comment?

I think, Adam suggested that you should open a case for the WATCH, not the HRM strap!
Optical sensors being less accurate is a known limitation, but if you have a pulse of 80 and the watch shows 160, like you wrote, that‘s not normal.

Maybe the support could help you.

  • You got my point, I was thinking about reporting watch not a strap.
And you are right about default behaviours, it was my poor English, I was thinking the same, all Garmin watches I’ve used and I know, behaves the same with external strap, receiving data from such during activity.

, regarding strap you bought, I think you should read more and not made decisions base on comercials, HRM-Dual is basic HRM sensor from Garmin in your situation better might fit HRM-Pro with memorry build in, this strap is capable to record your heart rate and transmit it directly to your mobile when will have connection with such. Of course it is not perfect solution and I still think you should report your FR35 to Garmin support, for me such huge difference in OHR readings classify your device to repair or replacement.

  • Thanks for your opinion,! FR35 is one of the cheapest on the market, so I didn’t expect miracles from this model. It was my fault, and TMK2 explained it very well: I had to start an activity in order to get access to HRM-Dual. Thank you all for supporting the discussion!
