HRM-Dual Bluetooth BPM issue?

When my new HRM-Dual is on it only shows my BPM on the Tacx app when it is on the HR Monitor mode. When I put it on the HRMDual:265133 (Bluetooth Mode?) it does not show heart rate (BPM). The BPM does not show up on Strava via either method. Does the bluetooth mode not send heart rate info? If not how do I get BPM on Starva using this Garmin HRM-DUAL?

  • Bluetooth should work - that is wat the 'dual' means, bluetooth and ANT.

Not familiar with Tacx app, however usually I would just record activity with Garmin, Zwift, Treadmill, Wahoo APp, Tacx app... then have it connected to strava to import that activity over.  not record it on multiple platforms (although I always record on watch because of load/recovery/training tracking on Garmin watch/website).

Strava app when you go to record, you press the heart logo and it should guide you through the process.  need to make sure the permissions are enabled to allow use of sensors/bluetooth info.  If you have used it on phone in the past, might be helpful to 'forget device' in your bluetooth settings and re-pair it through the Strava app again.

  • Thanks for the reply, but none of the information you have given solves the issue.

I understand the idea behind the dual function. I don't really use multiply apps to do record or show bpm. I just wanted it in strava. Yup I connected it to strava, didn't work.

This product is strangely over complicated to use from the start. Think I am going to send it back.

  • The strap can connect to multiple ANT+ devices simultaneously but only to one BT device at a time. What device is Strava running on? What protocol are you trying to use to connect the strap? Do you have the strap connected to another device/app using BT? Is that other app/device active at the same time as you are trying to connect to Strava? As noted, if you have paired/connected to something else in the past, ensure it is removed from the BT settings before you connect to Strava.

  • Strava is running on my phone.

I am trying to use which ever protocol works and sends the data to my phone and can be displayed or recorded on Strava. I have tried both Bluetooth and ANT. I am presuming Bluetooth for my phone.

I do not have the strap connected to another device, it was brand new. Unless it connected without me knowing.

I think I am getting a replacement from Garmin. Blush

Screen shots are what I am looking at in Tacx app but I also don't get any bpm info in strava, even when it is connected.

  • Did you ever figure this issue out? I have been trying to get my hrm dual to show up in strava for a week now and can’t figure it out either, it shows up on my phones Bluetooth, it will pair to my garmin watch and my Apple Watch and I can’t see it at all in strava?  I’ve unpaired everything, I’ve had the Bluetooth on my phone paired only… nothing works!

  • The key iirc is that you must 'unpair/forget' in the phone OS, then in the record function of Strava click the heart logo.  Don't go to the pair mode in the phone OS.

Also curious why with Garmin... why using Strava phone app when you can sync the activity automatically?

  • I've done that more than 10 times and it doesn't see it at all. Honestly, I'm switching to Apple Watch instead of Garmin... but right now I have both and I wanted to compare wrist hr accuracy to a hr strap before I made my final decision. Tried again and no luck still doesn't see it.

  • Generally the wrist should be pretty accurate, you should notice most likely when it is not correct.  Doesn't go up with intensity increase, stays really low... really high... Jumps around etc.

Otherwise... yes, the strap will be much better for a lot of people.  I have never had luck with wrist (skinny wrists?  darker tan?) so to get a reading that is good, I wear strap every workout.

OH - also I have always had better luck with the Wahoo Fitness app for recording iwth bluetooth sensors.  might be worth a shot.

ALSO... you might be able to find the dual HR type app for your apple watch, similar to the app for Garmin.  Allows you to use optical and a HR strap , makes comparing easy.

  • Hey, yup, I contacted Garmin and they helped me out by sending me a new one. Works great now! And yeah it works with strava too! Perfect...just need to add it to your devices in the app. Blush

  • Right so I'd like to have the option and with the dual (BLE & ANT+) i should be able to pair it to my strava app, that's what I paid for it for. To do what it says it will do. I shouldn't have to get another app to use a sensor that should work with this one.
