HRM-PRO Plus and Running Power Setup

My newly ordered HRM-Pro Plus will soon be arriving by mail.  I plan to connect it to my Epix 2 and get started with Garmin running power.  Does anybody have experience on how to set it up. I mean....should I use GPS for pace og the HMR-Pro plus pace (after auto-calibration is done)?  Is there a noticeable difference in latency in example when starting a sprint?  Pros and cons?

  • If you simply pair the HRM, wear it, and track a run with the HRM and Epix, running power should work automatically with the default settings. Default is that the HRM does distance and pace indoors, and GPS/Epix does distance and pace outside. You can change that in the sensor settings on your watch, but you probably don't need to.

Note that it's helpful to pair the HRM both with GCM on your phone, and with your Epix. You have to pair with the Epix to track the run, of course, but pairing with GCM is helpful too, for syncing and firmware updates. Probably the HRM will have a firmware update available when you first set it up, it's worth taking a few minutes to let it update.

It's actually all really simple and easy!

I've only just gotten the HRM-PRO Plus the other day, and only got back into running a few weeks ago. Enjoy!

  • Oh, and you can add Power-related data fields to the run activity if you like, but you don't have to. It'll track running power as well as running dynamics and show them Garmin Connect whether or not you add the data fields. No CIQ app needed.

  • Thank you for replying!  I think I´ll  start out with the default setting, getting pace from GPS / Epix.  Maybe after calibration try with strap pace....see if I can notice any difference.  For most situation gps accuracy and response time probably is enough...  My concern is for short sprints ...like sprint intervals of 20-30 s.   I'm into getting correct power data for my power duration curve that WKO5 is calculating for me.  I know this is way more than a bit nerdy, but such things keep me motivated......
