HRM-PRO intermittent during activity

The image shows an excerpt from a run today. As you can hopefully see, my HRM-PRO is not continuously recording data. In fact, it stops for between 10 and 13 seconds, and then starts recording data for 5-30 seconds, and then the cycle repeats for the entire run. It has been doing this continuously for my last 3 runs this week. The battery shows as being 100%. With the Garmin Connect app the HRM-PRO is disconnecting often.

The HR data looks like it starts at about 60 bpm during each on cycle, and then reaches the correct heart rate after about 10 seconds. This sounds as though the HRM-PRO is starting up from scratch.

If it is relevant, the above is with my Epix-2.

  • I just opened up the battery compartment, and the battery was at 2.864V, so that is definitely flat, and most likely explains the problems I have been seeing. Strange that Garmin Connect said that the battery was OK.

  • From reading other threads on this forum, it appears that Garmin's measurement of the battery voltage isn't very helpful, and it will routinely say "OK" when it is flat.

Also, when swapping the battery, take great care to seat the o-ring carefully and don't twist it. If you have some vacuum grease, it might help with the seal, else you run the risk of water getting in.

  • New firmware for the HRM has just appeared....

    Maybe this will help.

Mine has been disconnecting from my Zwift tablets (Samsung and Huawei) during running. I'm hoping this is the solution for me.

I installed it a few minutes ago and will be testing shortly.

UPDATE - Hardly a solid proof of a fix, but no problems during my Virtual Run on Zwift with Stryd and HRM-PRO connected by ANT+ to the watch and Bluetooth to the tablet. But the problem was somewhat intermittent for me, so it will take a few more runs to feel confident. But at least it all worked, including running power and dynamics from the strap, so nothing broken.

  • My HRM Pro won’t connect to Zwift after latest update. Seems to work fine on my watch though. It’s also showing connected in Garmin Connect.
