HRM-Pro missing data

I played a soccer game with my HRM-Pro. My Forerunner 745 and phone with Garmin Connect were on the sideline.  There are big gaps in the collected data.  Do I have to be near my phone or watch in order to collect data?  Is there anything else I could be doing incorrectly?

  • Did you have an activity started on the watch? If you have an activity started on the watch you do not need to be close to the watch. After you finish the activity you should get an option to download HR data if the 745 supports that - not sure if it does.

  • Yes, I started an activity before I played.  I didn't have an option to download, but obviously the data was downloaded because it had no other way of getting any HR data during that time other than from HRM-Pro

The watch got connection to the strap occasionally during the game, this is why you have hr data with gaps. It does not prove that the watch downloaded anything post-activity.

  • I'm new to the 745, HRM-Pro, and Garmin Connect app. Where would I get this fit file from?

Do I need to explicitly connect my 745 to the HRM?  Garmin Connect knows about both of them, but I don't know if they know about each other.  Should the 745 or Garmin Connect have explicit options to download HRM data after an activity? Or does Garmin Connect get it automatically from HRM?

  • In short:

    • Ensure your 745 is paired to your HRM-Pro in Sensors and Activities.
    • Once paired, your 745 will automatically find your HRM-Pro when you select an activity, provided you are wearing it properly - in other words make sure you wet it before putting it on your chest to ensure it's transmitting properly )I use warm water!).
    • Start the activity on the watch - your watch will tell you when it's connected to the strap.
    • Do your activity.
    • When you return to your watch, stop the activity and Save it. You should then get a prompt to download stored HR data.

    Note.

When using the watch and the strap where they remain connected - running, cycling, etc you do not need to manually download the HR data when saving the activity.

One caveat, I don't have a 745 so do not know if it has the ability to download stored data from a HRM-Pro.

  • Thanks! I was able to figure out how to download the data from my HRM to my watch. Kind of crazy that it doesn't do that automatically.  It ended up creating two activities, but I was able to delete the one with no data. I got all of the stats except for one I wanted -- recovery time. This was from an orange theory workout with a custom 'activity' type.  Do only certain activities show you a recovery time?

  • If you miss the prompt to download the HR data right after the activity, don't worry. Just go to Settings > History. Find the activity, click into it and choose download HR data. (well, within a reasonable time it should be there)

  • Recover time is cumulative based on all of your recent activities, VO2 Max, detected HRV, sleep, and other factors. You can always see current recovery time in the Training Status widget.
