hrm dual

Ive had my Hrm Dual over a year. Worked fine initially but now, in the last 6 weeks or so, when trying to strictly train off heart rate, the HR spikes up to 200 on a strictly areobic run. There is no issue with heart rate on a personal level, the Heart rate off the wrist strap when on its own is normal and as expected. I thought the HRM dual would continue to be more accurate but it is really letting my training down.

I have recently added new batteries, but the problem existed beforehand and its is ruining my training where Im trying to build an aerobic base. I have tried washing the strap and also wetting the electrodes prior to each run. Any other solutions to aid my frustrations?

  • Are you in a cold climate with dry air?  Static and lack of sweat can both be a big issue.  Try wearing natural fabric clothing and/or wetting your shirt a little.   Are you getting a respiration rate during those times?  That is usually my flag that it isn't picking up my actual HR, usually for me it is just in the start of my runs/bikes.  Could try adding electrode gel or aloe vera gel to your chest/strap contact points for better reading.

Otherwise check the silver buttons on the sensor to see if you notice any corrosion or browning... i've had numerous Garmin HRM fail from that issue (never a HRM-Dual yet...).

  • Thanks nick.

I've seen that feedback all right on other forums. It's not a static or sweat issue I don't think. I've tried those possibilities on a few occasions. The strap itself is in great condition. I'm at a loss.

  • What is the condition of the poppers where the module clips onto the band? If not cleaned and dried after each use these can get badly corroded. Note also that the strap does degrade after some time. The advantage of the HRM-Dual is that you need not buy a complete strap and sensor. The straps are sold separately at a reasonable price so it might be worth getting a replacement

  • Thanks for this feedback Philip. I actually noticed a slight Browning of the pins on the module itself. The band is v clean and as normal. I did not notice this. The Brown colour came off quite easily...Hopefully this will rectify the issue Pray

    Thanks a million
