Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Bluetooth connection to HRM-DUAL

I have an HRM Dual heart rate sensor which has performed faultlessly for over a year. I am using it via BT with several devices at different times (obviously not all simultaneously!).

This morning, though it can connect to the HRM-Dual via BT, my Galaxy Note 9 phone sees no data. ANT+ seems fine. Connections to my MacBook and two iPads seem to work fine.

I think this may really be an issue with the Galaxy Note 9 phone, but I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to troubleshoot this. I had an Android update on 11th December, but this problem didn't manifest itself until some time in the last 24h.

Any advice?

Robert

  • A couple of things spring to mind: try a BT connection with the strap to a watch; try connecting something else with BT to the phone.

  • The HRM-Dual's BT connection to a Polar Ignite watch works fine. Its BT connection to an iPad Pro, to a MacBook, and to a Gen 3 iPad all work fine. In fact the HRM-Dual appears to pair with the Galaxy Note 9, but delivers no data (also reports 85% battery with a fresh battery).

Also, the BT connections from earbuds, my Tacx Neo trainer, a pair of headphones, my MacBook, in fact all BT connections other than the HRM-Dual work fine!

    Something stops data transfer.

  • I have an update. To recap - the Dual HRM does not deliver HR data to my Galaxy Note 9 via Bluetooth, using any app. It used to work fine, but one day it stopped working, though it continued to work fine with ANT+. All my other devices receive HR data from it fine via Bluetooth.

Recently, the Dual has started an odd error where the reported HR stays static for long periods in an activity. So I decided to replace it, and after several issues with the Dual, I chose a Polar H10.

The Polar H10 works fine via BT with my phone apps, which is a great improvement. I can't think of a reason why my Dual would suddenly stop sending BT HR data to my phone.

  • If you haven't tossed it in trash, that was around the time that the HRM-dual received a firmware update.  gave some hassle for a lot of people.  often the fix was totally removing the strap from phone/watch.  So from phone remove strap from whatever Fitness App (strava, wahoo, rgt, etc) in settings if it shows up, and then in phone's Bluetooth settings 'forget device'.  then search and re-add it.

for watches you had to go in an delete out the strap and re-add it.

Longshot... but maybe worth a try.

  • I have found a thread from about 6 months ago (who knows why I didn't see it earlier) that you've posted in which does sound pretty similar to my experience. I will do a bit more fiddling with it - no, it hadn't gone in the trash!

  • I've tried all suggestions to get this HRM-Dual to deliver HR data to my Android apps. They've all failed. I'm singularly unimpressed by this situation, and very pleased with the Polar H10 that I bought to replace the Garmin. Maybe that's the lesson for me.
