Chest strap with left bundle branch block (LBBB)

I have a HRM Pro chest strap, which I'd like to use for running, cycling, indoor rowing. Each time the HR measurments are totally implausible for about 5-10% of the training (e.g. 200 bpm while running slowly). I tried the tricks found online (wet the strap, use a gel, don't wear synthetic shirts) with no improvement. Since I have a diagnosed left bundle branch block (LBBB) I suspect this condition interferes the measurement.
Does anyone have experience using a chest strap with an LBBB successfully?

HRM Pro chest strap should work great.

If you also have Left Cardiac Axis Deviation, try to move your HRM Pro chest strap slightly to the left, until you find your band best recording position. A real time HRV RR/ HR app could help you move the band to an optimal position (with less errors/artifacts/gaps). There are several for Windows, Android an Apple.

You can always try the Polar H10 heart band monitor, that can easily record LBBB heart rate, and even do a simplified one lead LBBB ECG with the following android apps: ECG Viewer & Recorder, Kubios HRV, Polar Sensor Logger and record events/artifacts with Fatmaxxer. Also the ECG real time voltage visualization, can help in finding the band best recording position.

With Apple you have "ECG EKG Recorder for Polar H10" app

Don't forget to update the Polar H10 firmware to version 3.1.1 before using these apps.

A new onset Left Bundle Branch Block usually is a sign of an underlying serious heart disease.

Please consult a arrhythmology cardiologist doctor before doing ANY exercise program.

  • Thanks for your suggestions! I will try this out and share the results afterwards.

  • Second that (consulting a cardiologist before starting exercising with LBBB).

  • Rotating the chest strap to the left did indeed make it work as expected. Thanks again!
