Fenix 6 is always searching for sensors, and connects to ext. heart rate out of sport mode

Hi, I just observed that my polar H10 chest strap battery died suuuuper fast, and I realized why. It is always connected... even if I'm not wearing it and not in sport mode. My watch is constantly displaying: "ext heart rate monitor battery low" now.

I checked in settings the sensors and it is actually always searching for all the paired sensors I have. Fortunately the power meter and stryd do not allow it to connect until they sense movement.

Does anyone else experience this? I know I could manually turn the sensor pairing on and off, but that's not really how it is supposed to work.

  • I've owned a 6X for 16 months and never witnessed such behaviour. I do not have an H10, but I do have multiple TickR (X) straps, HRM-PRO, 2 x Stryd, Neo 2 trainer, Assioma Duo pedals. No problems with battery life etc etc.

But.... Last week I was wearing my HRM-PRO while charging and syncing and updating maps on my 6X and 5X+. When I rebooted the 5X+ I saw a message that it had connected to my external HRM, without starting an activity. Despite the message my heart rate was not displayed in the HR datafield on my watch face.

So, slightly odd behaviour from the 5X+, without any apparent consequences, but nothing odd about the 6X

I suggest a chat with Garmin.
