Track worm screen in garmin watch

Hi,

currently I am using a Garmin Forerunner 310XT.

The most important feature for me is this "track worm" means I can go into a foreign forest and I can see my track.

This track looks like a worm only. no map with streests and so on is showing. I like this much.

Now I need to buy a new watch, because 310XT is not useable with Garmin Connect.

I need a hint, does any of those new Garmin watches do have this "worm" screen?

I do not like the back to start feature. Important is the worm!

2nd feature is easy switch between different sport types, like 310Xt did.

Thank you!

BR,

Daniel

  • Now I need to buy a new watch, because 310XT is not useable with Garmin Connect.

You sure? Using Garmin Express, you can transfer your data to Garmin Connect.

I believe most (if not all) GPS-enabled garmin watches have this kind of functionality.

2nd feature is easy switch between different sport types, like 310Xt did.

You mean switching sport types without interrupting the current activity? Then you should be looking at the 745, 945 or F6 series.

Or if you mean selecting a sport type before starting an activity, then all current garmin watches can do this.

  • "You sure? Using Garmin Express, you can transfer your data to Garmin Connect."

Yes should be working but first I have to use my PC with this litte ANT USB thing and then I can watch on my mobile. As far as I know. I Like to get the data directly into my smart phone

"I believe most (if not all) GPS-enabled garmin watches have this kind of functionality."

Is there a screen print / Photo or anything else of this worm display?

Does anybody know, what is the name of this Worm track feature? Than I can validate.

    THX

  • Is there a screen print / Photo or anything else. Waht is the name of this feature?

This feature is quite simply called "Map", even for devices that do not have any true mapping capabilities. It can be enabled/disabled for each sport type separately, and - if enabled - shows you:

    • GPS track for the current activity
    • Your current position and heading relative to that track
    • Topographical features (selected devices only)
    • Saved locations (selected devices only)

Here's a picture from the Forerunner 735XT manual:

Btw. I think that after all not all GPS-enabled garmins have the "Map" feature, so be sure to check before you buy something.

  • Great, I like this simple "Map Features"

Looks like this is exactly what I am searching for.

Need now to investigate which watches does have it and do not have a real map.

  • Looks like Forerunner 735XT is not a current watch Disappointed

  • No, but is still available in many places, and usually at a very reduced price. The current replacement for the 735XT is the 745. Other current models that have the map feature are 945, Fenix 6 (all variants) and I think the Instinct as well. Not sure about the rest of the Forerunner lineup. The Vivoactive/Venu series apparently DO NOT have that map feature.

  • Thank you.

My bad, all of those listed watches are very expensive. I would pay - around 200€ - but not that much

    Tired face

  • Then try looking for a discounted Forerunner 735XT or a Forerunner 245 (but this one with no multisport feature). Or even the older 920XT.

  • Forerunner 245 looks proper for me.

But peeking into the manual I am not sure that the "Map Features" is working during running without creation of a track / loaded track,

Somebody can confirm that on 245 "Map Features" is working without creation of a track / loaded track / navigate to somewhere

  • See this:

    https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/forerunner245/EN-US/GUID-A877CC78-A0E1-4836-84E2-6A7366C8F705.html

But, yeah, it would be best if an FR245 owner confirmed this.
