Is my HRM Dual working?

How can I tell if my brand-new HRM Dual is functional? I have paired it with my (also brand-new) Forerunner 735XT. Before I begin a run, I wait for the message that the chest strap is paired with the wristwatch. Once I get that notification, I go.

However I don't see any difference in the data that is collected on the Garmin Connect app whether or not I wear the chest strap. There is no indication in the app or on my watch where the data that it is displaying is pulling from.

My assumption based on a few trial runs with and without the strap is that it only is using data that is collected from the watch and completely ignoring the strap.

Is there a way to know for sure?

  • Start an Activity While Wearing the HRM Dual.

Take the Watch off your Wrist after a Minute.

If you get a valid Heart Rate and the Leds are off it's using the HRM Dual.

With the HRM Dual you can do a Bike Activity with the Watch Mounted on the Handlebars.

You can run with the Watch in your Pocket, but cadence will not be too great.

  • Take the Watch off your Wrist after a Minute.

Actually, there's no need to take it off. Just check the LEDs.
