HRM-Tri occasionally unlatches, shouldn't happen on a $130 strap!

I've owned several HRM straps over the past decade without any hassle, never even thought about accidentally unclipping during an activity.

But now it's happened twice on my HRM-Tri which is super annoying.

Looking at it, obvious why, this is the worst latch I've seen, the hook barely turns in and is almost a straight line so all it takes is a series of vertical motions with friction on the latch and it's just unhooked.

Come on Garmin you can do better that than on a $130 strap, especially since you've gone to a non-replaceable strap model for profit.

What's a good workaround? as annoying as that is to even have to think about but now I have to worry about it on every run which is stupid

Guess I could take a latch off an old strap and sew it on but why is that even necessary.

  • I'm having the same issue... I bought my Garmin HRM-Tri during COVID and used it for the first time last year, 2021 and it unclipped on 2 separate occasions in different races. I stopped using it after that.

I'm going to reach out to Garmin first and hopefully they'll just send me a replacement. My Forerunner 735XT right side buttons also stopped working on my watch so now I'm really stuck without any training tools Disappointed
