HRM-Dual - How do I know it's working?

I have a Fenix 5 Plus Titanium and I have noticed that on a few runs & bike rides my heart rate would go from 140's down to 80 or 90 bpm and then slowly come back up. When this was happening, I would use my Samsung Note 8 to check my HR and it was still around the 140 bpm mark. Because of this, I decided to purchase a chest strap and got the HRM-Dual. I paired it to my watch successfully and went on a ride on my stationary bike this morning. The HR graph for the bike ride seems smoother and more consistent with less peaks & valleys, but how do I know it was the HRM-Dual HR data and not the wrist sensor? Is there anywhere that I can see both the wrist & HRM data, or is it only one of them at a time. If it is one of them, is there any markings anywhere that would show it was the watch vs HRM? Also, without going into the sensors section on the watch every time, is there a quick way to ensure the HRM connected and is working?

Thanks for any and all assistance you may provide.
