HRM Dual Heart rate stuck at 72

I have the HRM Dual. I just bought it two weeks ago. I've gone on about 9 runs with it. During my last run, it worked perfectly for about 45 minutes and then my heart rate descended to 72. It has not moved since. It has been several days and it is very clean. It has no problem hooking up to my phone via bluetooth and connects just fine as soon as I strap up. However, the heart rate is stuck at 72 and doesn't move. Any ideas?

  • If this helps anyone, I just phoned Garmin UK, and they told me it was a known issue, and arranged an immediate replacement, with no need to return the faulty one. Very quick resolution I have to say.

  • I feel this happens when the band gets too wet from sweat. Happens when my gf puts it under her bra and the software gets confused and enters a stuck mode. I usually leave it to dry completely and eventually it turns of and it resets but yeah...Not ideal.

  • If it’s stuck on 72 then they will send a replacement as it’s a known fault and you can keep the old one too, so you could have one each….

  • I can confirm.
A year ago or so, I had a problem with my HRM Dual strap - the sensor was fine, but on the strap, one of the laminated pads started to come of at one end.

I asked Garmin Support via contact page, if they could do something for me, as this seemed to be kind of quality issue.

They wrote me back, that generally the shop where I bought it would be responsible, BUT for customer satisfaction they nonetheless gave me a link for Garmins Webshop, where I could order a new HRM Dual. For free. No further questions asked.
Not only the strap, but the whole thing including the sensor.
    Garmin Germany, btw.

So, long story short: Yes, if you have an issue and it is a known issue, support will usually help you out. Just contact them.

  • I bought the HRM Dual brand new and it has never worked right. It connects to 3 different Android phones using at least 6 different apps but only displays 72 BPM. Some have suggested a cheap aftermarket strap to try and correct this. Can anyone suggest a brand and which one they may have purchased. I am going to try that and if it doesn't work I'm throwing this thing in the trash. Thanks for the help.

  • Same happened to me.   I contacted Garmin and a new working one was sent.  (See posts above)

  • Hi, thanks for your reply. I bought mine brand new sealed in the box. I called Garmin but because I bought it on ebay they would not replace it. So I have to fix it myself. But thanks for your response.

  • I replaced mine with a heart rate strap from iFit. About the same price (they also have one that goes on your forearm). It has worked fine.

  • Appreciate it. I will check those out.

  • I’m having the same issue, battery at 85% and clean strap in good condition. Very frustrating!
