shifting inverted

I just received my bike and from the first ride shifters are inverted. For example using the Shimano set up the left shifter is moving the cassette and the right is moving the front derailleur.

I was looking for a factory reset but I cannot find any hint on what to do? I updated to firmware 4.5 but nothing changed. Even trying to switch between Sram and Campagnolo did not fix the issue.

Any idea on possible solutions?

Thanks

Ale

  • I chatted with Garmin about the issue and they said I can customize each button of the bike to my preferred solution (I did not have access to the bike in that moment). Once I connected to the bike and I went into the menu to customize the shifting I can only see the proposal for Shimano, Sram and Campagnolo in the app.

Do you see more possibilities in your app?

  • No, same here with latest software (5.1.0) on Bike Plus and latest version off Android app, only the three proposals - but I also would appreciate the possibility of free customizing every button. Maybe they are in the iOS app, but I don't own any Apple hardware. Maybe I have to ask my iPhone-owning daughter when she comes here next to try it. And the Windows desktop app does not have any options to set for the bike (only Road Feel in the training options).

  • Thank you Joerg, I have iPhone so I can confirm there is no option.

In the meantime Garmin assistance clarified it might be an assembly problem...

this is what I thought from the beginning, I am wondering how can they not test each bike for such issue at the end of the production line.

  • I’ve just received a new Tacx Neo Bike Plus and have the same issue: shifters set with left and right inverted. I can’t unplug anything and cross the cables. It’s boggling that was not tested.

  • yes, I cannot understand how such problems are not found while doing the quality checks at the end of the production. They really need to upgrade their level of quality considering there are many quality issues on this product.

The quicker way to solve it, is to disassemble the front part and invert the connection of the two shifters cables to the board.

Suggestion for the production and designer: use connectors with different shapes for L and R shifters so you will not have to make a quality test and as it will be impossible to connect right shifter cable to left command on the board. This could be easier then upgrading the skills of the people who assemble the bikes!
