Any plans to support Zwift Virtual shifting on Neo2T ????

Hello Garmin,

To begin, I have already submitted my "Idea" to Garmin about adding this support, but like many other customers...i've been ignored and no response nor announement has been published as of today. Hence, I am requesting you to please answer if you are going to add support for Virtual Shifting ? I am Neo2T and Neo3 M user and even with the best trainers I can't use virtual shifting and can't use zwift cog either (to avoid wear to my drivetrain and even purchase a zwift bike dedicated for training). Please reply, like me...many of us are waiting for this feature.

Thanks.

  • Thanks for reaching out.

There have been several threads on this topic since the first rollout of Zwift's virtual shifting function. We are continuing to investigate bringing more compatibility and more features to Tacx trainers, and will share more details when available.

Some 3rd party apps can bridge smart trainer connections and allow virtual shifting support in Zwift. A true integration of Tacx hardware with Zwift software involves both parties, and it would be equally helpful for Tacx users to ask Zwift about expanding their virtual shifting support.

I appreciate your patience, I will be updating several threads regarding this feature request when more info is available.

  • waiting for it.........

  • Hi Clayton.

Thanks for your reply and I will appreciate if you guys could please collaborate with Zwift as well. As a Zwift user I have just opened a support case with them requesting their collaboration to add this feature and work with Garmin so that we, your customers, can enjoy this feature and continue using your products without any issues. I will share their reply here once I get it.

    Thanks.

  • Clayton,

I have a Zwift answer from my Support Ticket and Zwift Forums:

Shuji at Zwift HQ here. We’ve been busy expanding the number of third party trainer brands compatible with Virtual Shifting It is true that these partnerships require considerable time and resources by both parties to bring to market. We ask for your patience while we continue that work with others whose trainers are not quite there yet.

    Support Ticket:

    "Hi Juan,

Thanks for contacting Zwift! My name is Haziel, and I am an eCommerce Specialist here at Zwift.

I completely understand how important virtual shifting is for you to fully enjoy your Zwift experience. It means a lot to know that you're interested in getting the most out of our platform, and I'm more than happy to assist you with any concerns.

It’s worth noting that the main challenge with compatibility for other trainers usually is related to firmware limitations. I highly encourage you to check out our article on Zwift Ready Compatibility, which outlines the compatible trainers with virtual shifting.

I’m happy to share that we’re actively working on expanding the options for virtual shifting! We’ve recently introduced trainers like the Elite Direto XR / XR-T, JetBlack Volt V2, and Van Rysel, which may be of interest to you.

I’ve also shared your feedback with our development team, and I encourage you to participate in the Zwift Forums at https://forums.zwift.com..These forums are a fantastic way to connect with the community, share your ideas, and gain support for your suggestions. The more voices we hear, the better chance we have to make improvements!

If you’re considering setting up for virtual shifting, I highly recommend the Zwift Ride. Alternatively, if you plan to upgrade your trainer in the future, consider options like the Wahoo KICKR CORE Zwift One or the Wahoo KICKR CORE with Cassette, both of which include a 1-year Zwift membership. We often have promotions, so you might find a great deal!

It’s truly a pleasure your time and interest in Zwift, and please remember that we’re always here for any further questions or requests you may have. Your satisfaction is our priority!

    Ride On.

Please let me know if we need to do something else. The Forum is open for us to Vote as well, so I encourage all TACX users to open the Topic discussion that I shared above and click to Vote.

  • Dear Garmin/Clayton

Zwift is the best and the most used application for indoor training. The fact is that if you do not arrange for virtual shifting for your old trainer, we all have no other choice to change our trainer for your competitors and we will never get back.......are you sure you want this?

  • That's crazy.  If Garmin allows virtual shifting it will kill all other apps giving Zwift a monopoly and lead to the eventually killing of Garmin trainers.  Please Garmin - NEVER allow virtual shifting.  Folks - think about the end result if Garmin allows virtual shifting.

  • "One shouldn’t overlook the fact that Garmin has held back on doing Zwift Cog/Click. My discussions indicate they are keenly aware that if they were to jump into that arena, without protocol openness, it’d pretty much kill off the rest of the indoor trainer apps within 1-2 years."  See the DCRainmaker blog post on Rouvy enabling virtual shifting posted 2/12/25 on dcrainmaker.com.  Everyone needs to understand the virtual shifting by Zwift without protocol openness is simply Zwift's attempt at complete market monopoly both in apps and trainers. To reiterate, the folks in the know, DCrainmaker, Gplama, & Garmin, all realize that Zwift virtual shifting is bad for cycling folks market wise. ***, Zwift virtually owns Wahoo and Jetblack at this point. Both have had to completely rearrange their business models around Zwift with contracts with Zwift.  Wahoo would have gone under without them.  Zwift virtual shifting is bad, extremely bad for the app market and trainer market.  Thank god Garmin is the only light at the end of the Zwift tunnel.  Think about it, of the major three just a few years ago, Saris is all but dead and Wahoo hangs on with a deal with Zwift.  Jetblack survives only with deals with Zwift.  The market has to have app and trainer competition.  Zwift will love the day when trainers are only capable of virtual shifting in Zwift's protocol.  As an aside, it's worth mentioning that MyWoosh opened virtual shifting using their app only to do the shifting.  Maybe clunky but you can shift with it apparently.  So, your Tacx can shift with MyWoosh virtually now.  Just put it in the middle cog of your cassette.  Hope this helps folks understand the major huge downside of virtual shifting.  You'll all be locked into a one trick pony if Garmin enables virtual shifting and in two years the only training app will be Zwift and the only trainer manufacturers will be those that contract with Zwift.

  • P.S.  Juan, if you can afford at 2T and 3M you can darn sure afford a new chain and cassette every year or so.  Garmin is not holding you back.  If you need a dedicated bike, pickup a cheap used bike for $150 and leave it permanently on your trainer.  You don't need virtual shifting and you don't want it, you just don't know that you don't.

  • I guess what we want is the whole package and the choice.

I don't get how you lose anything if you add support for zwift with virtual shifting.

You just give another possibility to your customer who can still use a cassette and virtual shifting on mywhoosh, or shift mecaniczlly on any other app.

It feels that garmin is far from grasping the market now and justify it by fighting for independecy.

If so, Cool guys, open your communication system with the virtual road feel that you have only with tacx and zwift to the others and everybody on the market can use it. Same with an open virtual shifting.

But tacx/garmin is 5 years behind everyone. Look at their 3m. No wifi, no fast 1hz transmission, no update of the shell that rubs against the disk calipers when everyone has disk nowadays.

You may think it's not linked to the zwift virtual shifting, I do think it's just a whole vision, tacx is left behind, hasn't upped the game and is not up to the challengers.

I love my neo 2se. But I don't get the neo 3 on today's market as i don't get tacx stance.
