Overheating, burning smell, Erg mode disabled then loss of resistance

Overheating, You can test it in the Tacx Utility app , it will show the exact problem if You pedal. When You plug in the Neo to the socket, do You hear the 2 fans spin up for ~5secs? If not, the fans are not working somewhy (or just one of if ), maybe stucked in , with a /reverse/ hoover (vacuum cleaner but reverse the air direction to blow and not suck)  or hair drier blow in air on the bottom, and suck out the air on the top with a hoover . maybe it helps to start the fans spinning. If these not working, must be replaced (unfortunately there are many overheating cases with 2T , @ the old Neo1 it was an unknown problem, but the 2T is heavily affected somewhy... 

I’ve got the exact same issue with my 2T.  Resistance drops to ~80W then to 0W and it’s making hot smells.  What was the outcome for you?

Refurbished replacement, I had to pay the cost due to being out of warranty! Sorry but I think you join us with the same issue on Neo 2 and 2T

I’ve only had mine since Aug 2020 so within warranty.

I've had this fault on a Neo 1 and Neo 2, due to the fan either getting jammed by internal debris (Neo 1) or simply failing (Neo 2).

With the Neo 1 was able to get the fan spinning again by working it free with a screwdriver stuck through the ventilation slots and jiggling it till the debris was dislodged. Tacx wanted the trainer back to investigate the debris and I received a warranty replacement. 

That second Neo 1 was replaced with a Neo 2, again under warranty, when the bearings failed.

The Neo 2 had fan failure which could not be solved at home. Once again the trainer was replaced (refurbished unit), this time by Garmin, and again under warranty.

Tacx/Garmin have always paid UPS shipping both ways. The last replacement took no more than a week. 

Cool.  Good to know that the support and replacement process is good.  Were your replacements new units?

The most recent was a refurbished unit, but it looked mint. I'm not sure about the older replacements. All as good as new if not actually new. The first two replacements were shipped in retail boxes, so probably new. The last was in a plain box, but with brand new Edco hub, QR etc.

Ta.  I wouldn’t be overly happy with a refurb replacement 9 months after spending £1200

I imagine they don't have any new 2 models in stock as it's presumably out of production. Hopefully it's a different story with the 2T.

I have the same issue just starting.  MY neo 2 is about 3 years old.  After 10 min it overheats!  I have opened a case with Garmin, no response as of yet.  After spending so much on this I do not expect it to pack up this easily!  Maybe time to move to the Wahoo....
