Vivosmart 5 Stress Levels Consistently HIGH

Every post I can find on this is locked for some reason. Coincidence?

I’ve had my HRV measured on a couple different devices and it was always very variable and a sign of good health. But, the Vivosmart 5 has my stress levels extremely high all the time. The only rest measurements I ever see are while sleeping and less than half the time there. Besides giving me a Stress level reading that suggests I should get to a Cardiologist as soon as possible, since this is also used as a sleep quality factor I hardly even get a Sleep Score higher than 50 and a battery level higher than 25. Since the HRV numbers themselves are not displayable on this device, I have no insight into what measurements are being recorded and used. As referenced above, others have had this same or similar issue and those discussions appear to have gotten closed quite promptly.
And, yes, I’m on the most recent firmware and have done several cold restarts. I haven’t set it back to factory settings yet and started all over, which seems a bit extreme since everything else seems to be working just fine. And, my heart rate measurements are fine and consistent with other devices and my resting heart rate puts my physical age back at least 5 years. It’d be even more if I wasn’t being dinged for stress and sleep, though.

I’d be better off with the stress indicator turned off and with it not being used or at least not weighted so heavily for the Sleep score.

So, is there a known problem with this that either can’t or won’t be fixed, or am I probably going to drop dead anytime?
Is anyone else having this issue? Please respond quickly before this thread gets locked too.

  • I am experiencing exactly the same thing you describe, and it's VERY frustrating! Except for when I'm doing a work out or activity where it doesn't register stress level at all, the rest of the time, it says my stress level is off the charts! How can that be, when I'm resting, sleeping, relaxing? I am in excellent health and very active for my age (67). This stress indicator issue needs to be addressed and fixed, as it has become a source of stress in using this watch.

  • I'm having the same issue. Wore my Vivosmart 4 for 5 years, changed to the Vivosmart 5, now I have high stress, low body battery & poor sleep scores. Nothing has changed other than the watch! The Vivosmart 4 used to congratulate me on my consistency of sleep, this one tells me every morning that I may feel more grumpy than usual... Incidentally, I have found that rebooting the watch recalculates the body battery & often results in a 20 to 30 percent increase. I called Garmin, who changed the watch, although they said there was nothing wrong with it. The new one is exactly the same - Garmins suggestion "see a doctor"!

  • I have had the same problem about sleep stress.  I could not figure out how I could have stress during sleep and still be asleep, so I figured the reading was nonsense. These posts have helped me understand why it reads that way.  I just wish I could either disable or hide the sleep stress reading like I can hide the stress reading during the day.  As it is I have to just ignore it.  All I want the device to do is to give me the numbers; I don't want it's "opinion."

  • I'm looking at replacing my Vivosmart 5 because of this issue. Has anyone had experience with the Vivoactive 5 or 6? Is this problem with those models?

  • Also having this problem. seems like after two years this isn't fixed or solved for? The past two weeks it has been telling me I've been getting 3 hours or less of restorative sleep because my stress level is high. The first two days I did have a cold so thought it was maybe that, but now that I'm feeling better it is still giving me really low sleep scores and really high stress levels for everything I do. Reset it. Still happening.

  • I have this problem, too! After getting a Vivosmart 5 in August after my 4 died, my stess has gone up a lot. My life hasn’t changed. I have done several factory resets without effect. Is Garmin on purpose not fixing this in order to force me to buy a more expensive model? I have really small wrists, so a larger watch is not an option. @Garmin please help!
