I have a relatively new Vivosmart 5 and the button has stopped working. I tried the water soak method a few times - no luck. Garmin will replace it under warranty, but I am hesitant to send it back without removing all the data. With the button not working, I cannot do a factory reset.
Garmin says they wipe the watch when it arrives - but I'd rather do that myself. Does anyone have experience or knowledge about this?
Here is my question:
1. When I plug the watch into my PC, it comes up with a directory of files and folders in Windows Explorer, like any other USB drive. If I use a file shredder to irrevocably delete the files and folders, will this remove all the personally identifiable data that is stored on the watch? Or is there some type of area on the chip(s) that stores data that is not visible in Windows File explorer?
Thanks
