VO2 Max not updating, even when starting the activity from the VO2 Max menu.

My VO2 max hasn't updated since Apr 28th, even though I have done a lot of walking activities and a few running activities with GPS enabled - the map and GPS data is correctly displayed on the activity in the app.

I have even started the walking activity to update VO2 max from the VS5 Heart Rate > VO2 Max menu 3 times. Each time the recording ended with a tick saying it had completed successfully, but the number didn't change and the date in the app still shows Apr 28th.

I don't expect the reading to be completely accurate, but I would expect the date to update like it used to even if the VO2 Max value stays the same.

Is there any way in the app to see more detailed logs which might show why there has been no update?

Would enabling pulse OX make any difference to the VO2 max function?

  • I don't think enabling pulse ox will help. I recommend resetting the band and re-adding it to the app. Yet, it might be true that your vo2max at that point in time is still accurate, so it is the value that is displayed. Mine is also showing the last date when my VO2max has changed, despite me running since that date. My measure remains like a month old (13th May). I guess your vo2max might have changed too slowly to justify changing the overall number (like climbing from 50.3 to 50.3)

  • I did reset the band a couple of times and then a few days later I got another VO2 max update but with the same number. I don't know if resetting the band made a difference or if it was just a coincidence :).

It might just be that the band has trouble generating a reading for me for some reason, at the moment it is on 34 which looks like it might be the lowest possible value. It did start off at about 42 but the more exercise I did the lower the value got until it stuck at 34. 42-46 is the good range for me.

  • I now have a Garmin Venu 2 and after doing 2 runs my vo2 max increased by 1 point. I just did another run and it went up another point. With my vivosmart 5 it was stuck at 34 for months and didn't update even though I always had gps connected to my phone.

So it seems to be a problem with the vs5. The connected GPS was working ok on the vs5, I can see that by looking at the maps. The heart rate readings also seemed correct and continuous. So I don't know why it would be different between the 2 devices
