FW 2.93 - fixes and bugs

It seems that FW 2.93 finally fixed stuck "steps auto goal" feature, after several months it moved from the default value of 7250. I had to re-enable the feature and it's only the first day when it changed, but hopefully it'll keep updating itself from now on (as it should).

However something broke - after the FW upgrade, I was not able to modify language or measurement units from Garmin connect app, it just gave me an "unknown error". So I performed partial factory reset of the watch and system settings are working fine now, except Physio Trueup, which disappeared completely. It seems that some data is still being synced back to the watch, but it's unclear if the watch is part of "Unified Training Status" or not. There is zero information about it in the release notes and generic Garmin web pages don't seem to contain this info either.

Anyone else noticed this behavior?

- could you please check and advise?

  • 1.I cannot turn on Physio Trueup in GCM, the switch keeps going back to off.

    2. The clock face stays in 24 hr mode, no matter what I do.

    3. The Stress/Body Battery metrics are a bad joke.If I wear the VS5 during sleep, and change to the VA4 when I wake up you can see the stress drop down and the body battery rise in a straight line up, It is useless on the VS5!

I wish Garmin get their Testing and Quality control fixed. Every software update breaks something new.

I just turned off the watch and put it in a drawer. I'm done with it. I'll go back to using the Vivosmart 4 as a secondary device. At least Garmin is done updating it and it should be stable. My primary device is a Vivoactive 4 and that still has things broken that have been open problems for months.

  • 1. and 2. seem to be a bug which gets solved by a factory reset of the watch (maybe there are other ways, but this worked for me), thanks for the confirmation. I agree that this shouldn't get pass unnoticed by Garmin testers.

    3. is unfortunately a standard behavior, Physio Trueup does not sync body battery/stress data, so whenever you switch watches, it starts from "scratch" (or where you left it the last time). However when I wear my both Garmin watches at the same time (Instinct solar + VS5), after a few days they show practically the same data for stress/body battery. So for me it's not off, just that one can't switch watches without losing gathered data. No idea why Garmin hasn't implemented full sync of body metrics, stress including.

  • Same here the Physio Trueup is gone on GCM app.

    - The Morning summary is showing wrong temp always showing (-127°).

    - HR/Stress Measurement became unstable on the recent update.

  • #3 Stress is HRV and is a "now" metric. It should not depend on if you've worn the watch for a week. Body Battery is a "best guess" number based on a formula.

And now, as mentioned, Physio Trueup has been taken away from the VS5, and the Physio Trueup specifications have changed. Take a look at the Garmin support page describing Trueup.

  • I fully agree with you about HRV, just saying how Garmin watches (unfortunately) behave.

However I am not entirely sure that Physio Trueup is gone, but rather enabled by default as my steps are synced between watches just fine. Maybe they are preparing for "Unified training status" where it's not possible to turn it on/off? Just a guess though, wish someone from Garmin would step in and clarify.

  • Yes, you may be right about Physio Trueup as Unified Training Status is what is is all about now. Maybe some old "Trueup" things are now default and behind the scenes..

Garmin won't chime in, they expect us to have a 7th sense about when they change something and it magically downloads into our brain.  But I bet they are preparing for new watch models yet to be announced.

  • I have -127 degrees Celcius on my Morning Report, nice integer overflow. The firmware doesn't have a bug report page, right?

  • Brrrrr....that's cold. Good testing of your updates Garmin....
