HR Zones during exercise

Hi,

1. Can the upper and lower heart-rate thresholds be specified in BPM?

2. Can it vibrate alert (not just beep) when you go outside zone?

3. Is there much of a lag after going outsize zone before an alert is fired? Some watches only alert after 30 secs to save battery, which is useless.

Shame the manual isn't more informative.

Many thanks

  • Is anyone able to answer? Generally how good is Vivosmart 5 as a heart-rate controlled exercise monitor? Accuracy okay?

  • What I've said is not true. I have found an option for HR zone running on the Vivosmart 5!

You can show your heart rate and HR zones during running.

Click on your device in the Garmin Connect app > Activities > Run > Data fields and set one to HR and HR zones. Done!

  • Sounds like Garmin have crippled the vivosmart 5's software so it doesn't compete with Forerunner 55. Hate it when companies do that. If VS5 does decent vibrating out-of-zone alerts, it reduces the need to look at the watch, but seeing heart rate is still essential. Eg because sometimes you can't distinguish between the too high and too low buzzes.

Leaves an obvious gap in the market for a cheapish (non-GPS, no per-month subscription), compact HRM-exercise and general tracker. Because sounds like VS5 is no good at the former.
