Polarized sunglasses and display

I notice when I wear polarized sunglasses, there are dark splotches visible on the display. I'm wondering if there is a defect in the polarizing layer, because when the Garmin is rotated 90 degrees the dark splotches become bright and the rest of the display darkens. Can anyone share their experiences?

Mine looks the same, so I guess that it's technical limitation/decision (similar to very low PWM frequency for brightness control).

LCD displays use polarization so yeah sunglases usually mess with them. Although I would expect it to be smooth I too see diferent regions with different brightness, but hardly a defect without glasses.
