vivosmart 5 how to stop heart rate broadcasting

I've read the manual numerous times and my hr is still broadcasting to garmin connect on my android phone. battery life of the vivosmart 5 an unacceptable 2 days. i go to activities/heart rate. scroll to broadcast, there is a broadcast icon above the heart. tap heart and gives me a warning that it will drain battery. tap again and it says start broadcasting. i'm assuming broadcasting is off. yet on my smart phone is continually updated. so, is it broadcasting. or does broadcasting mean to other garmin devices like an edge bicycle computer and not a smart phone. my main concern is to improve battery life of the vivosmart 5.

  • VS5 is bluetooth connected to phone mobile app, that's why it's updating. It's not broadcasting unless you turn it on to do so.

Full charge on my wife's VS5, doesn't wear it for 3 days and battery needs charging. Turn off bluetooth, and battery lasts 5-6 days, but then what's the use of that? Wears it all the time and battery life is maybe 2-1/2 days.

She gets a better battery life on her old VS4, which is several years old. VS5 is only a couple of months old. That's why the VS5 mostly sits on her dresser not being used.

  • Thanks for the answer. I had a vivosport that in the beginning the battery would last nearly a week, now maybe 5 days as long as i didn't use gps. expected something similar with vs5. but hated that the band wasn't replaceable on the vivosport. cut off the fixed band on the vivosport and sort of  got it to fit it in as vivofit 2 band. once a day was enough updating for me to get the data into garmin connect. but a hassle to have to turn bluetooth on/off on the vs5, but also a hassle to charge vs5 every other day.  kinda pissed but in reality, there are bigger problems in life.

  • Turn off Oxymeter completely, battery should last about 6-7 days then. At least mine does.. Slight smile

  • Thanks I'll give this a try. I had tried to turn this off on the vs5  but apparently failed even with help from garmin chat support. The manual only tells how to turn it on but not off. never could figure out how to turn it off on vs5 or what the options even are. instead used garmin connect to set what pules ox setting i wanted and then synced it back to the vs5. From what I understand now, there are 3 options. off, all day pulse ox and sleep tracking. sleep tracking is more intensive  and requires all day pulse to be on. at least that's what i gathered after using garmin connect to try to understand what was going on.

so now the vs5 is fully charged and i'll see how long it lasts.
