Bug? vivosmart 5 showing distance -- after bike ride, but not strava

this happened to my gf, when she finished a bike ride the distance was showing as -- on the vivosmart 5 and connect app (and thus speed calcs were n/a) even though the device had tracked the position on the map for the entire route

so the map is showing correct route, and strava has the correct route + distance after the auto upload to strava, but the vivosmart and connect are showing a distance of --.

I have the same, and it's a regression from VS4 where everything works properly.
It's interesting to see that in Strava you get it right.
