Steps during walking not in Fit-file?

If I use a walking activity, I see the number of steps in the summary on the Vivosmart, but I cannot file this in Connect or in the Fit-file.

I never did understand why Garmin removed the steps from all the walking activities a few years ago.
AND why have they not restored it since there are so many comments about it missing?
