Battery suddenly dropping

Twice my new VA6 has dropped battery significantly. Last night when I went to bed I had 31% battery. It was dead when I woke. It stopped recording heartrate at around 4:30, so around 4 hours after I went to bed.

I've done restarts etc. and am on the latest software. Bit concerning to not have any reliability with the battery.

  • What do you have the following set to?:

-Settings > Health & Wellness > Pulse Oximeter

-Settings > Display and Brightness > always on display.

Also, if the watch did a software update around that time, it can impact battery just briefly but levels out.

  • Thanks for coming back to me.  I had done the software update as soon as it was available, so wasn't in the 48 hours prior to this happening.

Pulse Ox is set to During Sleep

    Always On is switched off

I have several Garmin watches, and this was very unusual behaviour; a drop of 31% in 4 hours whilst asleep.  It had also dropped significantly a couple of days before that, but during the day.  I'm keeping a close eye on it, but I am concerned about the reliability of the watch when it just stopped recording during the night like that.

  • Understood thank you for letting me know, If you continue to experience this please contact Garmin Support in your locale at support.garmin.com

  • I've found the issue regarding the battery drop. It's not a behaviour I've seen with any of my other Garmin watches, but once the VA6 connects to the WiFi, it stays connected. It should disconnect, but it doesn't, and this causes a huge battery drop.

I put thw watch on charge overnight. It connected to WiFi to update music, and then stayed connected. My charger turns off after 4 hours. Because it had stayed connected to WiFi it meant when I woke up the watch was off and out of battery.

  • Even when you switch wifi off on the watch, it still stays connected. Below is a graph showing my VA6 has stayed connected to wifi all day, even though wifi has been switched off on the watch since 10am this morning. The only way to disconnect it is to turn the watch off.

I've seen someone else has posted about the watch dying overnight, do this doesn't look like a standalone issue, but a bug. Please can this be looked at?

  • - please see my post above which shows how the VA6 stays connected to Wifi.  I have other Garmin watches, and this behaviour is not seen with any of the others.  The only way to disconnect it is to switch the watch off.

Upon investigation it appears that this behaviour happens after updating music, but NOT when syncing the watch or updating software.

  • thank you for this information, we are looking into this!
