Vivoactive 5 after update to version 13.17

After the upgrade to 13.17 my respiration rate on Vivoactive 5 has increased dramatically. Put on my Venu SQ2 and now my respiration rate is normal again. Anyone else?

  • 4 weeks picture. I had respiration rate 14 most of the time for several months. I am not sick or anything like that….

  • The graph clearly shows the difference before and after the update.

  • After 13.17 on my Venu 3, EVERYTHING that back sensor reads tanked on me. HRV was high 40s low 50s overnight, now i can't get out of the 20s. Stress readings for body battery, always orange now, never can get into blue. HR, way off +-30bpm now unless I sit insanely still for 2 minutes.

I contacted Garmin a handful of times. they told me nobody else is having this issue, made me reset the watch multiple times before the basically told me I'm SOL.

hopefully they seeing this now all over these forums..

  • I also really hope that they will soon release a fix for this problem. Otherwise, what is the point of having a watch that completely incorrectly shows your health status?

  • Same issue with my FR255. Feb 18 after the update respiration rate went off the rails. Garmin says it is acting as expected, but there is no way. Years of consistent data and now it is not to be trusted at all. Looking at alternatives to Garmin devices, but don't want to lose my history!

I can do a meditation activity and it will show 23 bpm when reality like like 6-10bpm. I will also see it at like 22bpm sitting down. It's complete nonsense. It worked before the update, so something is wrong. Also noticed the Connect App and watch are now more out of synch as well in their values.

  • yeah, i feel you. I been in contact too with Garmin where they are being stubborn keep telling me there is no issues. Meanwhile this forum, reddit, facebook groups, all have tons of posts with complaints about respiration, body battery, heart rate. Garmin is getting too high of egos like they are the best and just deal with it. How can you tell me that nothing is wrong when i have had the watch for 2 years and know my metrics better than anybody else? I am starting to look at other brands as well...

  • Mine did this too - as well as my Fenix 7s. My Instinct 2s seems unaffected.

  • Sadly, but the 3.19 update didn't change the situation. Respiratory rate is still calculated incorrectly!
