vivoactive 5 10.20 - unstable connection and hung

Since 3 days ago after I get the 10.20 software, the connection to my phone has been deteriorated. Constant connection drop, and multiple time the watch pop up the pin and ask to reconnect.

Removed the watch from garmin connect, reset the watch, connection is still hit and miss. Notification come in late as well.

It wasn't a problem before 10.20 software update.

  • I'm also sending screenshots and logs to Garmin to help their developers. Hope they'll be able to fix it soon.

  • I think Garmin has worked on this lately. I have not gotten any messages to update my Connect app, but my phone's battery manager has told me Connect has been using more battery than usually due to "constant updates on the background" and the connection has actually improved significantly lately! Last week there were days phone and watch asked to confirm the 6 number digit quite often, but not closely as often than before. I haven't needed to completely pair them (as a new device) for couple of days now and yesterday and today my watch-phone connection has been surprisingly stable!

  • I disagree.  I've not noticed any issues at all with my phone's battery, but my VA5 is disconnecting multiple times a day.  I check it more often to reconnect it than I do for my data.  Often, the code doesn't even work and it is completely disconnected.  Now it has trouble connecting at all.

Does anyone else get terrible data, by the way?  As in, my HR is higher than most people's.  I've been checked by my cardiologist, and my heart is healthy and functioning normally, but because of that, the stress data thinks I'm stressed - even when I'm not - and that creates high stress readings and low sleep scores.  My heart rate is simply higher.  I've changed the RHR and adjusted the settings in the heart rate portion of my app, but can't seem to figure out how to change the stress portion.

Basically, the watch is useless to me, and because I've spent 3 weeks - seriously - 3 weeks troubleshooting this problem, I can't return it and get my money back.

  • My HR has been fine since day 1, and the stress meter is quite accurate, too, compared to how I feel. The stress meter uses multiple functions, such as respiratory rate and heart rate variability, to calculate the final score. I'd assume that the watch takes into account your higher HR.

  • I wonder if there's just something wrong with my watch then.

  • I just got message from Garmin support. First they asked if the connection issue has seen any improvement. I told them I personally have noticed some small improvement since last weekend, but the issue is still there. To that message they answered that they have gotten information from the product develoment that the issue is indeed software-based and the best option they can offer for now is to wait for the next software update which is trying to fix the issue. However the customer support couldn't say when would such update be released.

  • Well, if that's true I'll sadly just return the watch and move to a different platform. Really sad, because Garmin are stellar at most things. Battery life, ease of use, durability. No paywall in the app. But between the heart rate problems and the Bluetooth disconnections, I'm frustrated. These watches aren't inexpensive, but they last forever.

  • Same problem here. I've had the watch for a few months now and it was fine until the last update. Now I have to pair it again several times a day. Really annoying

  • I have the same problem. Since a month or so my watch keep loosing the connectivity with my Huawei p30 pro. Super annoying!! I am thinking to return the watch. Should I report it to Garmin CS as well?
