My Vivoactive 4 keeps powering off after I save an activity and for longer activities it powers off mid-activity and won’t turn back on until I plug it in. When it does power on it shows battery at 50% ish so not due to battery running flat.

I’ve had it for 2.5 years. I was considering upgrading but reluctant to spend more money if the general lifespan of garmin product is only a couple of years. I’m very disappointed as it’s my first garmin device and I had thought garmin was a top class brand with reliable products.

  • I have the same issue with my vivo-active 4, i've tried to reboot it but still the same issue. As soon as I start an activity or am 2km in my activity is randomly shuts down while the battery is still at 70-80%. Could you please let me know what I could do?

  • Hi, thanks for getting in touch and sorry it’s taken a while for me to reply. I’m still having a lot of issues with my watch. I’ve basically stopped using gps as it rarely works and often makes the watch shut down. I’m very happy you are investigating the problem.

    • I am happy for you to email me

  • My watch also randomly shuts down. Sometimes after an activity but quit often just seemingly random. But in one instance I'm able to reproduce a shutdown. That's when I go into the settings menu on the watch and select WiFi. If I then select "Connect to Wi-Fi" it starts searching for a network and then shuts down. This is consistent behaviour.

With this in mind, I noticed that the random shut downs seem to occur when the watch switches from WiFi network (not consistently but often enough). This would suggest that the problem lies in the WiFi software, and is not necessarily related to the activities. But given that the activities often end at home where WiFi is available again, it may seem that the problem occurs often after an activity.

@Garmin, I hope this will help you in your analysis of the issue and that you can come up with a solution.

  • I see you've already reached out to your local Support team. Please continue to work with them for this disruption.

  • Same problem here. Started about 3 months ago when it shut down during a bike ride. After that it started to shut down when starting a workout. At first only when battery was below approx. 40% but more recently also when battery was 80% For now the only way to get it working is to charge it to 100%, i have no issues as of yet when i do that. Also since a few weeks the watch sometimes shuts down randomly during the day when i'm not even using it (today for example). I have to use the charge cable to start it up again.

I live in the Netherlands, you have my permission to email me and access my Connect account.

  • Hi I have reached to the support team and their advice was this:

    ———————

Kindly make sure the device is updated with latest software version via Garmin express:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQOEu0L4ldg
After complete the update and sync with Garmin Connect, then you can do restart the device and test it again.

i have tried the above advice, but unable to resolve the issue still. Could you kindly help to look into the issue? Thank you!

  • I've sent you both DM's.
