After upgrading to 7.80, my vivoactive 4 has issues acquiring GPS fix. Even a full reset of the watch didn’t resolve the issue.
Anyone else familiar with this issue? Any suggestions to overcome this problem?

I contacted the local support team. From them, I was given 4 options that would solve the problem. None of these options solved the problem.
Finally, I downgraded the device to version 7.20. Since then, I have had no problems getting a GPS signal.
This confirms my suspicion than my problem is caused by the upgrade to version 7.80. According to the release notes, this release includes a fix for gps. Probably the fix is now causing a new problem.
I hope Garmin resolves this soon in a new release.
I expected as much. Could you please advise on how to downgrade firmware?
Classic example of how unhelpful Garmin support is. Version 7.80 definitely introduced several bugs, but Garmin offers no solution.

Leave out the steps In which you are instructed to place the GUPDATE.CGD file in the \GARMIN folder but go directly to step 4.
I haven’t figured out yet how to prevent the device to automatically update to the latest available release once it is sync with Garmin Connect.
Watch updates itself automatically (there is no option to turn updates off on Vivoactive 4), which is why downgrading is futile.
Thanks.
However, if you are able to postpone the update for a while, you might be able to exclude that the issue is cause by hardware malfunctioning.
If under the same conditions (same device, equal field-of-sight) you easily get a gps-signal when your device is running 7.20 and it fails to get a signal when your device is running 7.80, you can ‘prove’ that the issue is caused by the upgrade to 7.80.
I downloaded the 7.30 beta and transferred the GUPDATE.GCD file to the \Garmin directory on my watch. But when I disconnected the USB, nothing happened. It didn't update. Going into the watch controls, to settings/system, I touched the update button. It said "searching wifi" then reported no updates found.
Do I need to turn off the watch's wifi for the manual update to work?
If problems appear immediately after update, than update is the cause.
Finally a potential solution: did a software reset, including wipe of data. After that my wife's watch picks up satellites within 30 seconds (compared to 15min or never).
Fortunately with Trueup you don't have to setup your watch from scratch (training program and stats can be synced back to watch), but other info like credit card info you all have to add again.
So far, the Dutch local Garmin support has not been very helpful.
Without any motivation, they claim that my device is faulty. Since my device is out of warranty (bought it in May 2020), I have to pay approx. 150 euros for a replacement.
Garmin has done nothing with my analysis that after downgrading the device to 7.20 I no longer have any problems acquiring a gps-signal. And that after the device upgraded itself automatically to 7.80 the problem returned.
Very disappointed in Garmin's support, so far....
