VIVOACTIVE 4 NO SOUND

¿Did I just have spent USD 300.- on a watch that makes no sound?

Alarms only vibrate, notifications only vibrate.

Is it possible that a watch that is worth USD 300.- makes no sound?

Please someone tell me I am mistaken.

Thanks.

Marcelo

  • I had a Vivoactive 4 but now have a Fenix 6S. I wished I could disable all sounds on the Fenix without having to make compromises. I never ever want my watch to make any sound. I guess all people are different... ;)

  • That is right. For an USD 300.- or 600 watch you should be able to choose whether you want to beep or just vibrate.

No one in his right mind will check if a smart watch beeps. You take that for granted. Like spending USD 100k in a car you assume it will have ABS brakes or Bluetooth.

  • You're making the big mistake to think your needs are other people needs.

I dont need or want an beep on my watch, i prefer vibration. And i dont want fking bluetooth in my car...

There are many different watches out there, i guess you will find one that fits your needs. It's best to check the specs before buying, then you dont have to complain after.... that's just silly.

Idk, I was shocked when my first Garmin Forerunner didn't even have a built-in stopwatch (the activity timer is really not the same, for a couple of reasons). At the time, I think only the highest end Garmin watches (Fenix 3) had a stopwatch.

I never would've never thought to check the specs for "built in stopwatch", because I assumed any watch that costs so much more than a "simple Timex" would have one.

A couple generations later, Vivoactive and most Forerunners have stopwatches.

I have a feeling Garmin won't add beeps to the Vivoactive line tho. as it seems to be a key difference between the VA line and Forerunner line.

  • Way to go Garmin!! A smart watch for runners without stop watch.

That's the way to do it!!

  • There is way more difference. The Vivos and Venus don't have deep insights into your (running) workouts. Although the FIT files include information like recovery time or training effect, these measures are not visible in Garmin Connect. Suggested workouts are also not available.

On the other hand, you can automatically start a walk workout with the Venu or Vivoactive. Something a Fenix cannot...

  • I know there's way more difference. I meant the beep thing is *one* significant difference.

  • Dude, calm down. Most people do not want watches that make noises, so don't assume that whatever *you* want is the norm.

But that being said, it's partially your fault for not even checking the specs of the $300 watch to make sure it has the specs you want, and it's obviously partially Garmin's fault for not making it obvious to a buyer that the watch does not have a speaker.

Personally, I don't need a watch that makes sounds, since it's on my arm. The vibration works fine and is much preferred over a wearable that makes noise. In fact, I haven't even turned on the noise on my cellphone in years. It's extremely annoying and adds too much frustration to my life to have to turn the speaker on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off, on, off all day, depending on where I am and what I'm doing. Totally not worth it.

If you want a watch that makes noise, there are plenty from Garmin. It's my personal opinion that you should try living with the vibration first to see if it fills your needs. I have lived with the VA4 for almost a year and never once did I think to myself, "Man I wish this watch made sounds!"

  • There is something you still don't understand. For USD 350.- the watch should make coffee. That does not mean that everybody has to like coffee.

For USD 350.- I should be able to switch on and off the beep on any watch of that price. Just as simple as that.

    • And, for your information, neither in Garmin's web page nor in the Owner's manual it is remotely mentioned that this watch does not have a speaker or that it does not sound. Is this information hidden on purpose?. Rest assured that the answer is YES.
  • Can anyone name a product that advertises a list of features it doesn’t have? And why would that product then put the fact it doesn’t have it in a user manual?
