0% Brightness No Longer Available After 6.40 Firmware Update

I updated my Garmin vivoactive 4s to software version 6.40. After that it is impossible to adjust the screen brightness to 0%, the lowest possible setting is 10%. Before the software update I didn't have this problem. Restarting and syncing the watch did not resolve it. Hope you can help me how to solve this.

In the latest 6.40 software version the lowest brightness setting you can set is 10%, or you can disable the backlight by going deep into settings. I used to lower the background to 0% each night using a shortcut menu/widget which was handy. Now I can't do that, and achieving the same through settings is a pain.

Is there a really quick way to turn the backlight off and on?

This software change bseems like a really pointless change to make as hasn't added any value, just removed a quick way to achieve something.

It was reported battery drain issues with backlight activated at zero percent, I think that is why it was removed.

it's not a bug it's a feature which was introduced starting from version 6.33 "Reworked backlight/brightness settings" https://forums.garmin.com/sports-fitness/healthandwellness/f/vivoactive-4-series/274834/beta---vivoactive-4-4s-sw-6-33-is-available

I believe that it was done for the reason that some people may turn off backlight and then have problems to turn it on if they are in the dark.

That is a stupid rework of the setting. It was very useful to be able to turn off backlight completely from the widget and not have to go in menu, submenu and sub-submenu. And it's pretty easy to reactivate it when you have the backlight widget set as shortcut, even in the dark: Swipe right from the menu and press on the upper part of the screen. Now I'm force to go in the menus to reactivate when it's dark. Do you think it's easier?

They should have thought twice before implementing this modification.

Hi all,

I was using backlight control using shortcut and till update 6.40 it was works fine.

After update on 6.40 backlight control not completly off backlight, it is still on 10%.

Is not possible set 0% of backlight as it was before update 6.40

Have any same issue?

I used to do the same. This is definitely a step backwards. I don’t want it on all the time because it can trigger at night. But I do want it on in the morning.

This was only a problem after 5.80 - it always worked fine before!
