Fitness age change

Same here, 64 years old, fitness age went from 33 to 57 overnight... They are using a new algorithm for fitness age which does not take VO2max into account, only BMI, whether you meet minimum exercise criteria, and resting heart rate. It may be more appropriate in a general health and fitness context, but for people who exercise a lot it may not be so great.

I know it is only a number, but getting such a big increase in fitness age is very demoralizing.

Garmin, you can quote a fitness age according to this method if you want, but PLEASE give us a way to look at the old VO2max based estimate, it was a big motivator for me.

There's other threads about this, but I think it's a new feature which is supposed to be more realistic. (It can only be your real age plus or minus about 10 years, as opposed to the old fitness age which could be as low as 20, regardless of your actual age)

The old fitness age was just a simple table lookup based on your VO2 Max, whereas the new one is supposed to be based on other factors as well (like weight, I think).

(I don't have any personal experience with this, as I have think my 935 is too old to support this new feature.)

I know this doesn't help, but you could probably get a similar number by taking your VO2Max, gender and age, and plugging them into the appropriate VO2 Max table here: https://www.firstbeat.com/en/blog/whats-a-good-vo2max-for-me-fitness-age-men-and-women/ (maybe use the "Average" fitness classification.)

Where do you guys look? I can't find the VO2max or fitness age on the web version of Garmin Connect anymore, and in the phone app it still says 20 years for me (actual age 50).

Thanks, I was aware of those tables, but getting accurate values from those without more information does not seem that easy. I did put in a request on the Garmin ideas page to show the old value as "your Vo2max corresponds to that of an average XX year old".

I am still surprised at the high values from the new method, I recently tried an online fitness age calculator (https://www.worldfitnesslevel.org/), which is also based on weight, exercise level and resting heart rate, and it gave a result of 34, the same as my VO2max table based result.

For me, in the web version of Connect, go to Reports -> All activities -> VO2max -> View your fitness age

For me, the whole reports section is currently just a blank page. I will try later.

Now it works. It is showing 20 years fitness age there too.
