6.10 software update drains battery

Since 6.10 update yesterday, battery drains 1% every 30 mins.

Also, a 2km 30 minute stroll was recorded as 60km over the 30 minutes giving me the impression that I'm Superman (far from it)

Garmin, please provide 6.20 update to fix these issues. Thanks.

  • I never charge my battery to 100% so can't say the solution would work for you, but myself I turn off the watch after about 1-2 hours and turn it back on, this make the watch re-calculate battery charge and display real numbers which are higher than they were before turning watch off, and they start to drop after that. I see this behavior probably from version 5.something

  • Mine is draining very fast - this morning 42% now 10%. No tracking or music - only normal use to tee clock

  • I'm experiencing rapid drain on my Vivoactive 4 post 6.10 update. In my case it is the Backlight (it is always on) despite having Gesture settings configured. Anyone else with this problem noticing the Backlight is always on despite having Gesure settings setup/configured?

  • My Vivoactive 4 watch dropped from 100% to 24% in 24 hours after the 6.10 update.  Until then, I could get four or five days between charge.  No other changes were made on the watch other than letting the update install and tracking usage today was a normal day.  Garmin, we need a fix!  Charging it every day is not a viable option. Thanks.

  • same situación here.

I can  confirm that is  related with backlight sensor.
After upgrade, light is always on whatever sensor settings are configured. I Disable backlight and battery consumption back to normal activity.

please Garmin fix this backlight bug.

  • I'm having the exact same problem on my Vivoactive 4S and nothing that I've tried has fixed it. No Pulse Ox readings (not even while sleeping), no notifications at all from my phone, no data on the watch face besides the date - and my battery drops 75% in 10 hours from sitting at my desk at work. NEVER had a single issue the first year I had my watch and battery never got lower than 35% (not even on 20+ hour days at work with 60k steps in a day) from July 2020 until late June 2021.

I've tried every tip I've seen on the forums to fix it - full factory reset, charge on my computer, watch faces, etc. etc. etc. - NOTHING has helped. Any other suggestions would be great as I really miss the functionality I grew to enjoy on my watch.....

  • Is your backlight on in settings? Test turning it off completely (not just setting it to 0%, but turning it off). See if it works again.

  • I have not had any battery drain issues with any firmware version on my VA4S. Here are the backlight settings I have been consistently using:

    Mode: On
    Brightness: 10%
    Timeout: Medium
    Gesture: Off

  • Whooppee ! Lucky You...

I have the same settings as you other than a short timeout & drain is around 2% an hour with 6.10. As with everyone else I've tried all suggestions to fix & nothing works.

It isn't due to failed firmware updates either as Garmin actually replaced my previous device with issues from 5.60 to 5.80. The new device was no better on 5.80.

With 5.60 I got 5 days easy, With 5.80 I got 4 days. With 6.10 it's nearer 2.5 days. All with exactly the same settings & usage patterns.

I appreciate you have had no issues & have been lucky but as Sensovision said a few days ago. People that are having these issues aren't imagining things. They are real !
