Version 6.10 - Watch freezes on Activities.

Since version 6.10 the Watch keeps freezing while an activity.

After starting an activity the watch freezes after some seconds to minutes - have to hold power on for 15 seconds to reset watch. The activity started after reseting the Watch has no GPS data in Garmin Connect. No Map shows up.

Please fix it!

  • it happened to me in the first 30sec after the start of the activity. I haven't paired headphones or sensors. no problems in daily use or when starting a strength training session.

  • Hi for me the problem occurs when I select my activity e.g. Run, the watch then waits for GPS and nothing happens for minutes.  When it finally connects it's fine but the watch never had a delay in connecting to the GPS before the update, it used to be instantaneous.  I have no sensor connected to the watch.

  • It happened about 20-30 seconds into the run both times. Froze, had to do reset, then GPS didn’t track on restarted run.

  • Hi.

1.GPS he caught pretty quickly, I pressed start and after 30 seconds the screen froze (I don’t remember exactly well, maybe about a minute).

    2. I did not use any additional sensors.

3.I noticed that when they froze the screen backlight was turned on, although during the time the screen should work without backlight (or am I wrong?)
  • I never disable my HRM Dual and Tempe in sensors menu, they just get connected when I start the activity. As for Foot Pod I've connected it manually and kept it disabled the other times.

As for the timeframe, I believe that it could be within 30 seconds or 1 minute from starting the activity.

  • It happens in the activity, not on start page.

After pushing start it takes 20-120 seconds till the the watch frezzes. Im using Tempe and HRM. Both only paired for activty, else unpaired.

  • I have a 10 month old Vivoactive 4S and I have also experienced this 5 times in the last week. The screen freezes up between 23 and 27 seconds while in the GPS Walk activity. I can reset the watch by holding the start/stop button for 15 seconds. This problem is intermittent as it has worked sometimes (I use the walk activity every day).

  • Thank you all for the feedback! As this is a top priority, I have a few more questions that I am hoping to get multiple answers for.

I understand this thread is for Vivoactive4 but some Venu users are posting here too. So are you using Venu (regular Venu, not Venu2), or are you all using VVA4/S?

    • Are you using any CIQ data fields?
    • What native data fields are you using, and how many pages?
    • What is your GPS setting (off, GPS only, GPS + GLONASS, or GPS + Galileo)?
    • Do you have auto scroll enabled for that activity?
    • What are your backlight settings?

I just want to say thank you again for working with us and your patience is appreciated!

    I'm Vivoactive 4 user.

    - I do use CIQ Heart Rate Zones Chart both for Run and Walk activities. For Walking I'm additionally have another CIQ datafield named: GPS and Battery Info. For Run I've CIQ Finish time predictor (Mini) [hFinishMini].

    - I've all 3 screens enabled for runs and walks, I do have HR Gauge enabled too. For walk I've Screen1: Timer, Pace, Cadence, Heart Rate Zones Chart; Screen 2: Avg. HR, Elevation, Avg. Speed, Avg. Pace; Screen 3: Distance, Temperature from Tempe, Steps, GPS and Battery Info.

For Run I've Screen 1: Cadence, Pace, Lap. Time, Heart Rate Zones Chart; Screen 2: LAP. Cadence, Lap. Dist, Lap. HR, Lap. Pace; Screen 3: Distance, Temperature from Tempe, Time of the Day, hFinishMini

    - I had freezes while using GPS+Galileo and GPS+Glonass

    - I never used autoscroll

    - Backlight Mode: On, Brightness: 10%, Timeout: Short, Gestures: Only During Activity, Timeout: Short.

  • Only during a gps activity, not throughout the day, and both with an attached sensor (speed/cadence) during a bike session, no sensor during a run. Not using pulse ox, Sam tracking heart rate with optical sensor on watch.
