Bike Speed Sensor on a Vivoactive 4 - is it possible to set wheel size to greater than 9999 mm?

This may sound like an odd question, but on my indoor bike, it's impossible to attach my speed sensor to the wheel or hub. I can only attach it to the pedal or arm. That works fine, but since the RPMs are much slower, to make the math work out, I will need to set the wheel size in the VA4 to something greater than 9999 mm, which is as high as it'll let me enter. I believe the correct value should be approximately 12,000 mm.

Is there a way around that max, or a way to change the wheel size from mm to inches? Maybe that would help.

  • But the speed and distance are not realistic for indoor bikes anyway, due to lack of headwind.

And if you say one revolution is 12 meters, and you pedal at a regular 90 RPM, the watch will indicate 65 km/h. Can you keep that average speed outdoors? I doubt it.

  • Not an odd question at all.  There are widgets for spin cycles which say they will convert RPM to watts and distance.   As others have said, speed and distance does not account for the watts needed to get to that speed. Headwinds, up and down hills require different watts.
