Waiting for over 10 minutes for GPS

I have tried and checked multiple “solutions” opted in these forums, such as updating the software, starting an activity in an open field, setting the CPE to current, etcetera. But nothing seems to work for me. I have been walking around for at least 15 minutes now and I’m unable to get a working gps signal.

  • SAME PROBLEM, brand new (system already updates) Garmin 4S Sob

My partner has also a Garmin 4S with zero problem, he doesn't even go run with his phone.

So, Garmin 4S should just find GPS on it's own, is that right?

I'll see if there is a Garmin Switzerland... same gos version 4.80.

When you are outside and go into an outdoor activity profile it will say "Wait for GPS" and then after a little bit it should acquire satellites and say "Ready". Are you not experiencing this? How long do you wait outside for the GPS to acquire?

  • Had the same problem with my Venu. Went outside for a few minutes and it eventually acquired the gps signal.

  • Hello. I have done all the trouble shooting above including factory reset, delete and reinstall apps. I have tried all GPS options but it doesn’t connect. I waited about 20 minutes and the bar filled up but it never acquired signal. I am using a Garmin Venu. I have also left it outside to acquire signal for a long time but nothing happens. I am out of ideas and I cannot use the watch how I want. How do I fix? And why is it so hard?!

  • Hi there! Have you synced with Garmin Express? If you are not getting any GPS signal after 20 min, with the troubleshooting you have completed, it's likely the device needs to be exchanged. Can you tell me where you are located?

  • Hey! Have you tried resetting your device to defaults? I just want to understand clearly, are you trying to start the GPS inside? Also, once your outside, how long does it take before it acquires?

  • Yes I’m trying it outside. I waited for about an hour on 2 attempts both before and after reset. I tried again yesterday and it took about 15 minutes to get signal. Which GPS option is the best for London, where I am based? I have tried both. I will try again today to see how long it takes. It’s not the first time it’s taken ages to get signal. The other day was the first time relentlessly trying and it never did. Thanks.

  • If it the device is just not capturing most of the time, I encourage you to reach out to your local Garmin Support in London so they can get this resolved. If a reset to factory settings is not correcting it.

Found this thread and wanted to chime in. I also have a Venu and have updated software via express but gPS acquisition takes 5-10 mins consistently. I walk around the outside of my office at work almost  daily. no overhead trees. It’s so frustrating. When I wear my Apple watch 3 gps acquired immediately. I really like Venu but this gps issue has me continuously going back to Apple.

  • I am having the same problems. I have set-up my new phone and am running GPS version 5.40 and cant connect to GPS at all
