Waiting for over 10 minutes for GPS

I have tried and checked multiple “solutions” opted in these forums, such as updating the software, starting an activity in an open field, setting the CPE to current, etcetera. But nothing seems to work for me. I have been walking around for at least 15 minutes now and I’m unable to get a working gps signal.

  • I had the same problem today. I also checked the signal strength on my phone and the signal was very strong. I don't understand, why a GNSS pioneer like Garmin can not provide a good experience for GNSS.

Hello! Sorry to hear about the GPS not acquiring. Are you still experiencing this issue? If so, have you gone into the activity settings and changed the GPS to either GPS + Galileo or GPS + Glonass? ( Open Menu > Settings > Select Activities & Apps. > Select the activity > Settings > GPS > Select option) If you have already done this, could you let me know what GPS version your watch is running? ( Open Menu > Settings >System > About > SW Versions > GPS Version )

  • The GPS settings for the activity is GPS + Glonass, so that I have already done.

    my GPS version is 4.80

  • If you try GPS + Galileo do you get the same result? Does your watch ever acquire a signal?

  • Yep, tried that today and still have not acquired any signal.

  • Okay, can we try a factory reset to the device and see if this helps (If you haven't tried it yet)? ( Open Menu > Settings > System > Reset > Delete Data and Reset Settings )  If you still have the same results, can you let me know as I would like to get this resolved for you. Can you tell me if you are in the US or Canada?

  • Yeah I've already tried that, but has not helped. I'm from the Netherlands, so I think i might be on the wrong forums? Tried e-mailing you guys as well, but I'm not getting a reply.

  • If you could reach out to our Garmin Netherlands team, they should be able to assist you further. Here is a link, if you scroll to the bottom, it will have options for calling and emailing.

  • Same problem, on Vivoactive 4, have reset watch (annoyingly had to redo all Spotify etc) changed GPS but still not working. In the UK. Have a Fenix 3 next to it and it picks up GPS in seconds so not signal.

Hello! Have you performed the troubleshooting above? How long do you have to wait to get a GPS Signal? Does it ever acquire?
