GPS version 4.60 is now live

This update can be downloaded with Garmin Express or automatically with Garmin Connect Mobile (pending rollout). 

Change Log:

  • Fix a bug causing long fix times in certain conditions.
  • For me GPS is also very bad again. Takes ages to get a fix, fix is unreliable. (Rotation of arm -> fix lost.)

    If fix has become stable there are still many jumps in the recorded track so that my Strava records get messed up.

    Already had this problem once before mid of this summer. A reset of the watch fixed it back then i think. But i dont want to set up my watch again and again.

    Why break working things Garmin? And then not come up with a hotfix at least?

  • Today after my long run, I started a walk activity. In red is real path I walk and in blue Garmin GPS track recorded. GPS only every second.

    I started activity with green gps flag from my watch meaning it had a lock at hat time.

  • I am also suffering from terribly long GPS lock times after this update (VA4S). It's really ironic because I got the watch a bit over a month ago and during the first days I was impressed on how fast it was to acquire a GPS lock. On my last two runs (both after this update) it took more than 5 minutes.

    At the moment my perception is that the software deteriorates after every update, instead of actually improving things. It's really frustrating.

  • I just want to point out that some users don't synchronise their devices on their computers using Garmin Express. ...understandable, since Connect mobile should do everything Express does. However, it's often been noted that CPE updates are successfully transferred via Express but not via Connect mobile. So if you haven't synchronised with Express then give it a shot and hopefully the CPE file gets updated and with that quicker GPS acquisition.

  • Good point actually, thank you! Yeah, I have never used Garmin Express as I understood that I'd get all updates through Connect too.

    If I use Express, am I going to notice whether or not the CPE file is updated? Cheers!

  • You can check it under "system" and "about". Scroll all the way down. It should say that CPE is current..

  • Thank you! It says "Expired" on mine at the moment so this might be the reason. I'll try Express then. Thanks once again!

  • As mentioned above you can check it on the device, but also after your Garmin express sync, you can browse the device's storage volume to Garmin/RemoteSW and find a CPE.bin file. Just check this file's creation date.
