Number of steps during activity

Hello. I have a question.

I recently bought a Vivoactive 4S and yesterday I took my first walk with the new watch. I tracked the activity with GPS. Afterwards I wanted to look up the number of steps taken during this activity, so I can input this number to calculate my average step distance. But I can't find this information anywhere in the activity summary.

I'm sure the activity was tracked just fine, the synchronization was also fine, and I believe the total number of steps for yesterday does include the number of steps taking during this activity. I would just like to know how many steps I've taken during this tracked activity.

Does anyone know where to find this?

  • You need a data field from the IQ app store called "Steps to fit". Then you need to customize the fields in the activity screen to display it. If you don't display the field, it won't do anything.

If you're interested in what your total daily steps are while you're in an activity, there's another IQ data field called "simple steps" so that you can easily see your total steps are during an activity. It won't show in the activity summary but it's useful to not have to swipe around for it while you're exercising.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

I already have a data field with "steps" set in my walking activity, so I can see the number of steps taken while walking, but the problem is that I want to look up how many steps I've taken during the activity, afterwards.

So not the total number of daily steps while in an activity; I can look that up by swiping left and looking at my watch face.

So, what I want is: to see how many steps I took during an activity, in the Garmin connect app on my phone.

  • You need to install the IQ Data field from the IQ App store called "Steps to Fit" and add it to your activity. It displays and writes the number of steps related to the activity to the FIT File of the activity.

Connect with Steps to FIT data field

Oh I'm sorry I think I misunderstood you the first time. I will do that, thanks!

I've done as you suggested and immediately tried it out. Yes, this is exactly what I meant. Thank you so much!

  • Thanks for this info, I've added the field to my Run screens.

It doesn't look like it's possible to see the step count for activities that were recorded before the data field was installed, is that right?

  • so I installed Steps to Fit and went for run, I can see the number of steps if I go to the history on my watch but on connect I can't see it, I am not sure what I am missing there

  • This is where you should see it if the field is added to the activity display on the watch..
