Specific positions on screen not responding

Hi all,

I have recently bought the VivoActive 4 (as an "upgrade" to my Fenix 3) on Black Friday (29 November) here in South Africa

However, I have found some strange issues: cannot press/select any item on the 11:00, 12:00 and 1:00 clock positions on the touch screen.

Especially with the shortcut menu interface (padlock symbol on 11:00, power symbol on 12:00 and widget item on 13:00) or any other app (eg, clock, alarm, timer) that requires me to touch-press the 11, 12 or 1 numbers.

Although I can swipe the screen(s) from top to bottom and vice versa but I suspect it is more because the screen registers the finger touch/movement in the middle of the screen, not on the edges.  Can also side-swipe (left to right) as well.

Very frustrating, at least.

Now I am wondering if I have a dodgy VivoActive 4 (serial: 5ZN0001xxx;  xxx = intentionally removed).  The software on VivoActive is also up to date with latest version.

Anyone experiencing the same?

  • Nothing like that here. Try factory reset the watch. If this won't help - then it's most likely hardware issue.

  • I just came across your post and I am having similar issues to yours. In my case I got this watch for my mum and she has troubles saving activity, because the touchscreen is not very responsive in the bottom part of the display (numbers 5, 6 and 7 in my case), sometimes she saves it no problem, other times it takes her tens of attempts to get it done. I came across this issue myself when I was setting up the watch for her but I though it's more of a problem of my finger...

  • In my case, after experiencing the issue with some positions at top of watch, did a factory reset but it did not solve the problem.

Of the original 11:00, 12:00 and 1:00 positions (as in my previous post), only the 12:00 was restored, plus I started to experience the same issue with the 6:00 position as well which finally forced me to contact Garmin themselves directly.

They did not want to admit or tell me that there were any problems but informed me that I can return/swap it for a new replacement.

So, I suggest that anyone keep testing the touch screen (especially after a reset) and replace it, if under warranty, for a new one.

Definitely a weird hardware issue if one can call it that, especially if, after a reset, it works but other positions not....

  • Hello! Are you experiencing only part of the screen being frozen? Have you by chance tried resetting the device to factory settings to see if this corrected the issue?

  • Hello, i have issue with my Garmin vivo active HR watch, its touchscreen stopped working.

    - I tried soft resetting,

    - updating it with Garmin express,

    - cleared activity file from folder which were not in standard format.

    - Re installed Garmin connect App,

    - Also whenever power on it says that "update failed. Try again with Garmin connect"

    - tried remove and add Garmin device in Garmin connect app,

    - Now able to factory reset it but cant move forward as touch screen is non responsive

    Please help,

    Parag

  • My VivoActive 4 has just started doing this.  The 7:00 and 11:00 positions (6 and 9 on the alarm screen) are not responsive at all.  This really sucks because I need 6 for my alarms.  I have tried doing the reset with no success.  I've had the watch for about 16 months so I'm assuming I'm SOL.

  • The right side of my watch won’t work. For example I can’t press the number 2 or 3 button or the Spotify or pay apps. I did a factory reset and it did not help.

  • Same hereFrowning2️ I heard great things about garmin but I wouldn’t buy another one of their watches

  • Suggest contacting Garmin Product Support. For the quickest response, use phone or chat options.
