Activity stops automatically after 15 min break

Hi

When I start cycling / running with my garmin Vivoactive 4 and I have a break, after15 minutes the activity will save and end automatically...

Is there a setting where you can adjust this? Never find anything about it in user manuals or on Google..

Very frustrating that you see in your Strava for instance 4 trips uploaded instead of 1 single ride...

Would be great if someone could help me with this...

  • Hi, did you find a solution to this?

  • This was one of the most annoying features I discovered on this watch. On the Forerunner series the wach has a very advanced pause menu (like pause and save for later). There is no option to disable this. Even if you do auto pause it will stop WITHOUT prompting to save or continue after 15 mins. Workaround is keeping in mind for how long you stopped and then resume and pause again.
Or try this app, this developer has some nice 3rd party app for hikes, rides

  • Is there already a solution for this?

  • This is tremendously frustrating and my major issue with the watch. It will fairly reliably start an activity automatically for a walk, but I find (even with continuously walking) it will randomly stop, save and then restart a new activity during the same walk. I just got back from a 3 hour 8 mile hike and have 5 different activities saved, despite having not had a stop for more than perhaps 2 minutes max.

  • That must be something else. If you have auto pause on, it will pause for 15 minutes and then (but only then) stop the activity without prompting. If you stop the watch manuall, the same applies: it will stop after 15 minutes.
Probably having auto pause is better because normally you move a little bit which will always resume and stop again extending the 15 minutes.

  • I can't find any option to enable/disable auto-pause for auto-activity. Where is it?

    Thanks!

  • Push upper right button to select an activity. (Walk for example) Before you start it, swipe up to go to the pre activity menu and choose settings. There you find auto pause.

  • surely there is something missing. The watch shouldn't automatically start and stop an activity after 15mins of break. if i understand you correctly you're saying..

    10am - start activity

    10:30am - stop and have a break

10:45am - activity automatically stops and save

10:50am - you start moving again and you don't have to do anything and it starts automatically?

if you have auto-pause on or if you manually pause the activity, the watch is still consuming power (GPS mainly) and thereby in order to save battery, it will automatically go into power save mode after X amount of minutes (and save your activity)

if you do not want this, you can

    1) stop the activity

    2) select Resume later

    3) watch will go ito clock mode

when you want to restart your activity, just click on start button and you will see your prev activity already there. Then press start.
