Do activity steps not count toward total daily step count?

I ran two miles today after I got my VA4 and during the run I could see my step count increasing to around 9000 for the day.  When I got done I stopped and saved the activity.  Now my step count is back around 6000.  I know the run got logged, I can see its activity in Garmin Connect.  Is this a glitch or a feature?

For comparison my old vivosmart 4 would count steps during an activity as included in the daily step count.

Thanks

  • This just happened to me as well. Bought the watch yesterday and took it into use yesterday afternoon.

Today I ran 8 kilometres and neither calories nor steps counted. I see from the other posts, this problem dates at least 8 months back. This is totally unacceptable.

  • So to everyone having this issue. I think it turned out ai had a slightly glitch watch. I couple of weeks ago I was having issues with the steps syncing, where the info in the "cloud" or website would not match my watch.

I contacted Garmin and sent my watch in, getting a replacement. Since then absolutely no issues at all in any way shape or form. So I believe that I had a glitchy watch. I have absolutely no issues with the new one at all. And I used to have all sorts of weird sync issues that I didn't realise till I got a watch that worked properly. So if you have one that's doing weird things, get it swapped now!

  • Can you get the steps back at all?

  • Nope. New watch sorted the issues completely
