Do activity steps not count toward total daily step count?

I ran two miles today after I got my VA4 and during the run I could see my step count increasing to around 9000 for the day. When I got done I stopped and saved the activity. Now my step count is back around 6000. I know the run got logged, I can see its activity in Garmin Connect. Is this a glitch or a feature?

For comparison my old vivosmart 4 would count steps during an activity as included in the daily step count.

I don't get steps, or active calories added to my daily totals with this watch.

It worked normal for me yesterday, dis an 8k run and all the steps counted. Today however my watch is glitching and resetting everytime I sync. I think its a connect issue now rather than a watch issue

Do you have "settings>Activity Tracking" off by any chance?

I went back and verified those settings. Activity tracking was on. As a matter of fact some more testing revealed that a timed walk added steps to daily total, but a timed run did not. Has to be A software glitch.

I checked that, activity tracking is on. I actually saw the step counter reset back to 8514 steps while syncing

I think your watch crashed. That happened to me 2 weeks ago. I was in the middle of an activity when I felt my wrist vibrate. I looked down to see the Garmin triangle. When the watch face came back, I had to press the start button to continue my activity but all the steps since my previous sync and also my customized data screens were gone.

Same here with my wifes VA4s, but we were not able to see it crashing or rebooting.

My wifes VA4s loses steps, once she is at 5000 than back to 3000. Second time within one week. First time it was an activity so within the activity we see the steps, but they are not counted. It seems for an hour or two it is not counted.

This has just happened on my VA4s as well. It is so annoying as I have only had my watch for 1 week and stuff seems to be already going wrong!
